Thread: Brazing brass help
03/09/2020 21:19:49

No expert I, but I see no reason why silver solder would no be suitable for that job.

I have used it for many jobs over the years and never had a problem with it.

Your job is not going to get knocked about [like some of mine did ! ], so, I think silver solder is the way to go and should be much easier to find someone local to do it. It,s no big deal.

Thread: Power Hacksaw

I know just how you feel JA, I too have one of those horrible cheap flimsy Chinese 6x4 bandsaws.

Dont know why I put up with for the last 20 years, maybe because it just keep working, no matter what I feed into it.

4" round, 6x4 R,S,J, 3"X3" sq ect, ect, all the same and as for being reliable ! that,s a joke. No matter what I do, it will not cut off square, neither will the blade fall off.

I think I must have got a real dud, a Monday morning job.

PS Just asking, why did you keep it for 17 years ? If it gave me that much hardship, I would have dumped it long ago.cheeky

Thread: Do you clean the workshop up every day?
22/08/2020 09:27:57

I did clean my workshop once. Ah yes, I remember it well, I were only a lad then !

Now I just about clean myself !

Workshops are not showrooms, clean the kip when you cannot find what you need and just get on with the job.

Life is too short for Housecleaning.cheeky

Thread: Who trains these ideots?
18/08/2020 17:14:58

What makes you think they are trained ?

Some years ago, around here, everyone who could hold a shovel was calling themselves a "Builder"

Their handiwork is on view for all to see. Strange to say, they are nowhere to be seen !

I suspect they did their "Training" building sand castles on the beach, knowing that the tide would cover up their efforts.

Thread: Twerps with hats on back to front and no front number plates
17/08/2020 10:15:11

Around here number plates on farm tractors and trailers are a very rear sight, as are working lights.

Police dont seem to bother about them. Dont know how one count identify them if they hit your car, or indeed yourself.. I have NEVER seen any of them being pulled in.

Along with that, very few cars have a full set of working lights. I dont understand how this can be, since they must go for test sometime.. Since I got my van in 2006, I have replaced two rear stop lights [which were pointed out to me by my nabour ], but if one of my headlights was blown, I would surely notice it. Again, the police dont bother about it.

Meeting one of these jokers on a dark morning, the question is which light is working ?

Yes John, it is a 110v motor, was ordered as such, so was fitted with a 110v moulded plug, just not the type we use., that,s why a new one has to be fitted. and I do have a transformer.

Bryan, I did notice the earth connection, I,m not that brave. I dont take chances, even with 110 v !

Thanks to all

15/08/2020 12:58:17

Good morning all,

I am about to fit a power feed unit to my milling machine.

The unit comes with a 110V plug unsuitable for our system, so needs to be replaced. The wires are black white green.

Which is the live, white or black ?

I suspect it is white, but just to be sure I decided to check

Thanks for your help [always available ]indecision

Thread: Proxon KS230 table saw motor 'kaputt'.
14/08/2020 20:52:47

That reminds me, I must check the bearings in my 50+ yearold home made saw bench !

Maybe they need to be greased, or maybe I should just leave them alone, since they are doing OK ?

These little Micky Mouse "tools" are not made for serious work, just for playing with.. Get yourself a real saw.

Would it not be about time to either get it working or scrap it ?

Just asking ?cheeky
