Thread: Empty Drill Boxes |

I have taken the risk of looking at ARC's web site and can't find empty drill boxes. It's probably because I'm going senile but I should be most grateful if you would kindly give me a hint as to where they are listed on that web site. Thank you |

He doesn't have a workshop; I think the drills just rattle together in a tin. He's a semi retired minister of religion. I would NOT be surprised if he offers up a small prayer before drilling!

Thank you for taking the time to respond from NZ. I'm NOT looking to buy loose drills. I'm hoping to extend the life of the drills that he already owns! I have seen cheap sets advertised - but they often come in plastic boxes and the reviews of the drills suggests that they would find it difficult to drill holes in cheese! To answer Mr. Foster, I suspect that a set of drills from 10.1 to 13.0 in 0.1mm steps would be uneconomically expensive. How often would one need the complete range?

Ladies & Gentlemen Thank you for taking the time to respond. I looked at both Ebay and Amazon before posting but neither were helpful. I actually want a sturdy drill box to give as a present to a chum who is "mechanically inept". I have just sharpened his HSS drills for the second time and suspect that they would stay sharper if kept in a Drill Box. I am hoping to be able to obtain an empty 1 - 6 mm or 1 - 10 mm by 0.5 mm steps. Grotto - what do you have spare, please? Where are you located? With best wishes and thanks again.

Does any reader know where one can buy empty metal drill boxes (Indices?) at a sensible price, please? I have bought these in the past but the local supplier no longer stocks them. I'm beginning to wonder if the answer is to buy a VERY cheap set of drills in a box and then throw the drills away. Is anybody able to help, please? Very many thanks

If a site asks for a cell'phone number I enter the landline telephone number. I can't think of any reason why any company would want a cell'phone number in preference to a landline telephone number. It's simpler for them to generate a confirmation code (for 2-factor ID) and text it to you - all done by computer - than it is to make a voice call .... even if the voice is computer generated. I understand the need for security if, for example, one is making a purchase by Credit Card, but otherwise why collect the information. I never give out my cell'phone number - I treat all incoming calls as suspicious. MC |

I do NOT give anybody my cell'phone number because I can't hear it ring. So anybody ringing me needs to use my landline telephone number. If a site asks for a cell'phone number I enter the landline telephone number. I can't think of any reason why any company would want a cell'phone number in preference to a landline telephone number. I have four extensions around the house to my landline and another in the shed-workshop - so I'm much more likely to be able to answer that. I want nothing to do with Paypal (because of "unsatisfactory" experiences in the past. But Ebay will NOT let anybody sell on their system without a Paypal account. I hope that you and your families are, and will remain, safe and well. MC

I have no intention of replacing the telephone because newer models do NOT have a stereo jack socket for my amplified headphones. Bluetooth headphones are not particularly expensive .... and you don't have wires. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I use the same headset with microphone with my iPhone, my iPad and my computer. All I have to do to change from one to the other is to move the jack plug. I fear that changing the bluetooth between them would be fiddly and time consuming - and the computer doesn't have bluetooth (as far as I know) When I went to the Apple shop a teenager tried to sell me "pods" but didn't spot that my ears were already fully occupied by hearing aids. I did believe it was NOT suitable for my iPhone and that suits me. My GP and orthopaedic surgeon advised me to minimise computer use so the NHS can contact me by Royal Mail Letterpost. With best wishes and thanks again.

Somebody told me that these "apps" would NOT work on my iPhone - and I took that at face value. I do NOT want any part of NHS to communicate with me by either email or by ringing my cell'phone. I am happy to receive all communications by Royal Mail Letterpost. It's too much to type to explain why, but if you send me your telephone number OFF LIST, I'll ring and explain. I hope that you and your family are, and will remain, safe and well. MC

I have an iPhone 6s which links seamlessly with my iPad Neither connect to my computer! If anybody is really interested in why, send me your telephone number and I'll ring and dilate on the subject. I have NOT had my iPhone very long (bought refurbished) and it does everything that I want at present (and lots of things for which I have no use!). My iPad was also bought refurbished. But if it's a decision between writing name and address on paper or buying a new telephone, I'll stick with a pen. MC |

My telephone is too old for the NHS "app" to work. I have no intention of replacing the telephone because newer models do NOT have a stereo jack socket for my amplified headphones. I am happy to write my contact details on a slip of paper with a pen if I go anywhere that wants to record my presence. MC Black |

A final bit on nut spinners as per original post Nut spinners are used in the aircraft industry on terminal blocks on wiring looms This is the vertical stud type with insulated seperators So on a connection strip, loom terminals placed over stud, nyloc nut fitted and tightened with a nut spinner, until the nut spinner CLICKS This is the preset torque arrangement in the handle to prevent over tightening.and putting stress into the stud. Hope that makes sense. bill That makes perfect sense. Your spinner sounds a bit like a Torque Wrench The Nut Spinners that I bought do NOT click in that way. I still have an eye open for a 4BA or 1/4" Nut Spinner! With best wishes and thanks again. MC

Posted by Howard Lewis on 15/05/2021 12:02:44: Hand, Spiral Point, or Spiral Flute? is now the decision Howard Perhaps you should think about whether you want to include Serial Taps with Hand, Spiral Point and Spiral Flute? I bought a set of M5 (or M6 - sorry forgot) serial taps in a "sale - reduced" and one of the set crumbled the first time that I used it! The supplier didn't want to know! MC

Don't think that I have any BA thread gauges, (Typical! Whit, Unified and Metric but no BA 1 BA is 0.9 mm pitch while M5 Coarse is 0.8, so difference in both diameter and pitch! An order for new Taps is imminent. Hand, Spiral Point, or Spiral Flute? is now the decision Howard Did you try comparing the Tap with an existing 1BA screw? I recently bought a BA thread gauge on E.Bay for less than a fiver - I guess most of that was postage! MC

Proof reading one’s own text is often difficult MichaelG. As the former publisher for the University of London, I can safely write that proofreading one's own text is more than difficult. One sees what one intended to write rather than what's on the paper With best wishes and thanks again. MC

May I ask the source of this data please? It would be useful to have a laminated copy in my shed-workshop but I don't know how to print just the table. Very many thanks in anticipation MC
. Yes of course ... it is the page which Nigel Graham 2 misquoted ... Please see Nigel’s post on page 2 of this thread ... which you have already questioned, and upon which I have already remarked. MichaelG. . Edited By Michael Gilligan on 15/05/2021 08:32:44 Thank you for taking the time to respond. I did NOT appreciate that the table came from Tubal Cain's book - I'll have to buy a copy. With best wishes and thanks again. MC

The tables above have been most usefull Opened up a new box of Sherwood M5btaps, today, to find that they don't want to go into a 4.2 mm hole. Why? 5.25 mm diameter although marked 5 x 0.8! So look like being incorrectly marked 1BA! Howard Did you measure the pitch of the thread? MC
