Thread: ER32 Collet Chuck advise please. |
03/06/2020 21:02:45 |
I can’t find a reply from you regarding checking the internal taper of the chuck...don’t be fooled into thinking that if the external body runout is ok, that the rest will be ok too...not so....I’m having the same problem with a MT4-ER32 chuck on my Warco lathe...measuring the morse taper of the chuck where it sticks out from the lathe spindle it’s fine, but measuring the internal chuck taper it’s 3 thou out...and the rest of the body is too.. considering collet chucks are designed for accurate work, you’d think they’ve made with some sort of accuracy in the first place... if you’re not getting a good reading at the chuck taper there’s no point checking the nut or collets, as it can only get worse not better..you need to work forwards from the beginning, starting at the lathe spindle, ...backplate face...etc....Good luck |

I know this is late in the day, but I’ve just watch a YouTube vid dealing with this subject...the problem turned out to be the collet chuck nut...different ones gave completely different readings.. |
Thread: Gibs, adjustment screws and brass |
09/05/2020 17:24:28 |
I have a Warco 250v-f and have found the top slide gib is both quite thin between the dovetail, and also quite short top to bottom.. it therefore has the same problem as mentioned earlier, of tilting when the adjustment screws are tightened...This sloppiness has also caused the indents on the gib not to be drilled parallel with the edges, they line up diagonally along the length of the gib...explaining why I had problems adjusting it the cross slide gib is absolutely fine, and is a good fit sideways and up and down, and doesn’t have the tilting problem.. im going to make a new gib for the top slide out of thicker wider brass...hopefully that should cure the problem... PS...anyone buying a new..or old Warco...I would suggest you remove the gearbox and apron assembly and give them a thorough clean out with white spirits...mine had way to much cast iron grit in the bottom.. im also thinking of fitting an extra drain plug in the bottom of the gearbox as the one on the side is obviously higher than the bottom of the box, meaning it doesn’t drain fully...magnets are also being fitted in the plugs for good measure. stay safe... I’ve removed the chuck guard and clamped a 125mm long rod to the end of it vertically with a red knob screwed on the end...It’s used as an extra safety stop button, and is easier to access than the one on top.... All it needs is a quick tap backwards to operate the off switch...works well...simple to do..👍 |

Thread: Warco WM 250 problem? |
30/12/2019 17:24:19 |
The drip tray has a void underneath it...I think this may be to fit flush on the Warco cabinets....I cut a piece of plywood slightly thicker than the void to fill the whole space...thus lifting the tray slightly off the bench I made... if you’ve mounted the lathe directly on top of the tray without anything between the bench and tray it won’t be solid.. |

RDG sell these together.... |

The problem remains that these days that if it’s not direct from the manufacturer, there’s no proof of its authenticity... |

Totally agree..but..if someone is selling a named product....you wouldn’t be happy if you received a fake... |

..Wattage is quite important depending on what you intend using it for...the small wattage fancy ones with lights etc are ok for light duty jobs but will soon stall with very little pressure... i have. 450watt SeLey BG150w/90....About £80......I’ve fitted an adapter on the right hand side that has a half inch chuck screwed on the end..This accepts small wire brushes os different size and shapes...which I ipyse for rust removal and thread cleaning...it’s also good for holding small round objects that need to be cleaned or polished.. it does most things I need but even at 450 is not that difficult to stall....that’s why I think buying the smaller models is wasting money...

That’s the seller I bought it from....He said he’s been trading for 15 years and that Jacobs stopped putting their name some time ago...which they have confirmed....I asked why he didn’t send it in the container shown in the picture...he replied that he bins them as it increases postage costs...🤔

No mention right now as my lathe is presently out of action waiting for a couple of new parts....and I bought a second hand Albrecht chuck that requires this arbor.... As I mentioned earlier Jacobs have confirmed that they stopped putting their name on in 2012...so I now have no reason to doubt it’s authenticity.....but as soon as it’s up and running...I’ll be back.. |
