I use 9/16" and I can only seem to get it in 2011, you are quite correct it chips rather than long strips but 2011 suits my needs as the things I make with it need the extra strength. Martin |

I have bought many drills from a supplier called "Drills UK,or UK Drills " [never remember which, grey cells gone rusty ] To date,I have not had any problems with them.No idea where they are made,China,I suppose, but they work. They are not in the same class as Dormer, but neither are they the same price, they seem to be rolled rather than milled, but for workshop use, they,re OK. Good range in Metric and Imperial although I dont recall seeing any number or letter drills on offer. Might be worth a try. I also use UK drills on ebay and haven't had a problems as Larry says they seem to be cheap and carry a good range with quick delivery, https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/UKDRILLS?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 Martin |

This is what I use on my mills they are great with the magnetic base and flexible arm, they just run off a USB charger and at £7 won't break the bank https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073FGLYFR/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Martin |

Hi Patryk, like you I am new to this game I only started last September (thanks Ian) now I have a ML7 and DB10 lathes a Sieg SX2 plus (my first mill) and a SX3 mill, I can say hand on heart dealing with Arc is easy, Ian is knowledgeable and will point you in the direction, spares are available unlike some others, so again I would recomend Arc. Thread: TAP AND DIE SET |

I use this guy on eBay a lot his are Osborn/Europa and reasonably priced plus he has a trade counter https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/cncpoorboytoolstore/Taps-Threading-Tools/_i.html?_storecat=1256164014, I bought a set when I first started but find it easier just to buy either single of a set of 3 when and as required, and don't forget your local store (http://www.mcmills.co.uk/) the one I use has been around since the 30's and has stuff that you wouldn't believe his presto taps are for a M5 £5 each or £12 for a set of 3. Thread: Holzmann grinders/polishing machine |

Depends what you are polishing. M/C, car parts etc, i would want at least 2hp. You can pick up good S/H Brit brand name 3 hp, 3 phase polishers ready to work for 150-200 quid.
The only problem with that is 3 phase I would need a converter and "not done yet" that all sounds far to technical for me I just know it gets bl**dy hot, but I will just keep running it and buy another one this one has given me nearly 7 months service and it's still running ok. |

Thanks Clive, you are correct they do look very familiar think I will just stick with my screwfix one and just keep buying them at £40 and "no not done yet" it doesn't labour at all runs quite happy as I only do smallish bits of Ali. I will just have to do a bit then give it a rest. Thanks everybody |

I have dealt with Ian at ARC and I am more than happy with the service and quality of goods from them including the mill I bought off them, but I thought the Holzmann was made in Austria the company selling them is http://www.surtech.co.uk/index.html and by the look of it ought to know what they are selling, as it has quite rightly said I am finding it hard to justify the cost as compared to the Screwfix one I am using a 400W 8" for £40 that does the job but gets very warm after a while, that is why I asked the great and the good if they had heard of them. Many thanks Martin P.S. I asked Warco and they said none of their polishers could run for a couple of hours |
15/03/2018 16:49:40 |
Obviously not that popular then, how about an Allwin from ARC ?? |

Has anybody had any dealings with a Holzmann grinders/polishing machine, I'm looking for a good polishing machine and Holzmann do two one at .75 h.p. at £130 or one with 1.2 h.p. for £215 or can you recomend one I do a couple of hours polishing at a time maybe twice a week. Thanks Martin |
Thread: Chester DB10G |

Thanks Gordon and Les, good to hear positive things about them, I could only find how show we say it mixed reviews on them, what about spare parts and the electrics I suppose with the speed being governed by the belt system instead of the veriable speed there is less to go wrong on them. Cheers Martin |

I bought my DB10g new about 11 or 12 years ago and haven't had a single problem with it at all. Keep thinking about a VFD for it to fix the only drawback with it which is it's 120rpm lowest speed for threading, not yet got round to doing it and just have to concentrate a bit more. Others on here have also got one, not seen any of them complain about it that I know of. That's good to know and joking apart my ML7 is 3 phase with an inverter so that can run quite slow but to be honest I haven't got round to any screw cutting I have just used a die in a tailstock holder, so if the price was really cheap I would keep both as they must both machines have there strengths and weaknesses with the ML7 for me the biggest drawback is the lack of re-settable dial on the saddle and tailstock.

Smaller spindle bore and less powerful motor than WM250V, plus it's from a time when the reputation of Chinese machines was maybe less secure than it is now. Looks like a limited range of fixed speeds on pulley changes, and also more limited feed ranges. WM250V didn't seem expensive to me compared with new or 'good' reconditioned Myfords, and I've not regretted buying it. That's what I think, but you pays your money and you takes your choice. Edited By Mick B1 on 23/02/2018 19:39:57
I have to say I tend to agree with you as does my gut felling but I said I would go and have a look at it and it also depends how cheap he will go as I could also keep my ML7 can't have to many lathes |
23/02/2018 19:06:37 |
Hi, I have been offered a cheap 9 year old DB10G but the information on them is very scant are they any good as I haven't seen many reviews on them or stick with a new Warco 250v I have on order. Cheers Martin |
