So presumably this is by them and not Carron. There are quite a few of these floating about, I presume they were cast to order, but that would mean they didn't season the iron. I know so little, back to Goggling for me then.

I actually thought iron was sorted out by Dud Dudley back in the 17th, but perhaps he only sorted it where he was. I have a reprint of his wonderful book where he prices the various irons and moans about the charcoal burners trashing his sea cole fired furnaces

Does anyone know, was Carron the only cannon maker in Falkirk back c1800?

If a ships cannon is marked FALKIRK 6Pdr, is it safe to assume it is by Carron?

Whenever I have had violent shaking plunging on a 2 flute cutter it has always been cutting one of those weird Reuleaux triangles rather than a round hole. I have no idea why or how to prevent it, we have already plumbed the full depth of my knowlege with this simple observation

Mine got horribly hot for no good reason I could see and stopped working. I bought another one. The hot one cooled down and worked for another 2 years, still going strong.

I usually type, 'Acetone 5L' in to ebay when I run low, then sort by price and postage. Are we expecting a problem getting it after Brexit? I will stock up. I got chloroform out of Italy as, 'goods in free circulation', but I think they have put the mockers on that one. Apparently you can make chloroform by reacting acetone and hypochlorite but I haven't checked for awkward byproducts.

My memory is getting old and tired. I remember cutting my finger with an angle grinder, I remember how much it hurt, but blowed if i can remember how I did it. Makes it slightly tricky to avoid doing it again?

On my ML10 I flip the belt cover back, grab the drive belt and squeeze it in the middle whilst lambasting the chuck key with a rubber mallet. I then look at the hand that held the belt and wish I had put on a rubber glove. If the chuck resists I lock the shaft with the back gear. I know I shouldn't but it is so convenient and expeditious.

I have an old Startrite with 12" diameter wheels. Designed for wood I was cutting 1/2 inch aluminium with a skip tooth blade. The blades didn't last long.

I have bought a new, 47 rpm gear motor with 80Nm of torque from Geared Motors UK which will take it down to 2.5 ft/s 150 ft/min which sounds just about perfect to me.

It seems I can buy most any blade in any length, I am going to enjoy this!

80Nm translates to a 118 lbf push on the blade. Wonder if it will slip

My old boss had a chum at Autodesk so we got a free copy up to r14 when I departed. I now use AutoCAD look alike ProgeCAD, not free but near enough when you compare prices with the real thing. One excellent feature is you buy it, Not too keen on that rental stuff even if I did buy 2 years for the price of 1 Fusion360.

I do a lot of this for leaking alkaline batteries, is that the same? My technique is two minutes of harsh ultrasonics in Electrolube Safewash 2000, then a scrub under the hot tap using the plastic washing up brush,followed by a blow dry with shop air making sure it penetrates all those important little places. Leave for a few hours to dry completely and then a waft of Servisol Super 10 switch cleaner to give a bit of lasting protection. Whether it works really depends on getting there before it penetrates the gold to the copper beneath and whether it finds lead free solder. It does strange things to lead free solder especially close to the battery that leaked. Haven't quite figured that one.

I return the suds through a filtration sock thing. They make them for the keepers of Koi carp and sell them on flea bay. You can get them with a rigid plastic top. I 3D printed a fitting for mine to make it posh.

I became very brave and bought a new Mitutoyo Digimatic caliper on ebay, cost me £62.89. It just arrived and I think it is more genuine than the last one I bought, but is 100% genuine too much to hope for?
