Thread: Brooks Stent Grinder Plans |
06/09/2019 10:39:41 |
Many thanks for all the replies everyone, it's much appreciated! A member on this forum got in touch and sent a copy of the MEW articles via PDF. It should make for an interesting project and a useful tool at the end of it all (fingers crossed). Bill, thank you for the offer but I like the idea of trying to build one from scratch and possibly adding in a couple of modifications of my own. |

Hi all, I quite like the idea of adding a tool and cutter grinder to my equipment. However, even the Chinese clones of the Deckel SOE machines are out of my reach at the moment (+£700!). My thoughts were to attempt to build one and pictures of the Brooks Stent unit make it seem capable and not massively difficult to complete (famous last words). However despite looking I have been unable to locate a set of plans...does anyone know of where they might be available or perhaps have a set they are willing to share? Harold Halls design is a close second and one I am considering.

Thread: Myford vmf style (KF-VO-A2F) |

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Im going to have a look at the machine next week, the seller also has a Elliott Omnimill available. A tough choice ahead! I think I may be leaning towards the Warco however as it has the raising block and DRO fitted and seems in better nick. Great work on your miller John! Is that capable of 2D CNC profiling work, with the Z depth manually set then? |

Many thanks for the replies gents, much appreciated! I read the date stamp on the machine incorrectly and it looks like it was manufactured in 1989 and doe not have the table power feed, so I assume its one of the older non-Taiwanese machines. I will ask the seller anyway though. John, great looking conversion you did on your machine. What size torque steppers did you use for that? Edited By Mark Slatter on 05/06/2019 08:20:43 |

Hi all, I have been offered an older (1986) Warco Miller that resembles a Myford VMF. Does anyone have any idea if these miller's are any good? Are they decently rigid, how do they compare to an Elliot Omnimill for example. Any input appreciated!

Thread: Stepper rating for Triac upgrade? |
01/06/2019 20:32:45 |
Hi David, It sounds like I'm playing it well on the safe side by all accounts! Did you CNC your Bridgeport, or just power the knee? My Triac must be one of the earlier models as it does not have the tool changer. |

Hi Emgee, many thanks for your reply. A Google search did bring up a Denford PDF showing the holding torques on the Triac. For X and Y their motors give 193Ncm, and 700Ncm for Z. So as you suggested the motors I found should be plenty, especially as they are closed loop. Good idea about the limit switches though! |

Hi all, I am finally getting round to upgrading my Denford Triac to being usable, I have spotted some closed loop steppers on ebay from Longs Motors. Would 5Nm be ok for X and Y, and 9Nm for Z? Any advice appreciated, thanks! Edited By Mark Slatter on 29/05/2019 14:05:15 |
Thread: Denford Triac - Remove Easy Change Holder? |
27/05/2019 18:01:10 |
You must have posted as I was writing a reply, thanks for the reply David |
27/05/2019 17:59:15 |
Hi John, you are indeed correct. I have just got back from the workshop and a firm tap with a hammer released the tool holder. I was hoping it was removable for exactly the reasons you outlined! Many thanks for the replies |
27/05/2019 17:38:00 |
Many thanks for the link David, those diagrams clearly show a standard R8 taper which indicates the tool holder should tap loose. However the plot thickens as the Triac Series User Manual states the tool holder is "permanently attached to the spindle".

Hi all, I have a 1986 Triac, it has the Easy Change tool holder with "R8" written on the side. Is it possible to remove the Easy Change tool holder from the spindle or is it integral? I have removed the bolt/drawbar a few threads and given the bolt a few taps but there doesn't seem to be any movement of the tool holder. It is likely that no one has tried this since the machine was manufactured however, and it may be a touch tight! Any help appreciated, thanks

Thread: Machinery movers? |

Hello Bill, many thanks for the link! Not only is he in my county but in my town too so that could be very convenient. |

Hi Andy, I didn't hear back from 1tonne services, and the mill I was hoping to grab has been sold so I left it at that. On that note though if anyone knows of AEW Viceroy milling machine or Elliott Omnimill for sale (or Aciera/Deckel for that matter) I'd be interested to hear about it. |
19/05/2019 14:57:52 |
Thanks for the link to the other thread Bikepete, I've sent 1tonne an email hopefully they can assist. |

Hi John, Many thanks for the reply. I have actually already been in touch with Steve, however he said he was unable to help. Due to work commitments he is focusing machinery removals in a 100mile radius around Huddersfield. The £400 you were quoted sounds very reasonable for the number of machines and distance moved though. |

Hi all, I'm considering adding a milling machine to the workshop, and while I moved my 12x36 lathe myself I'm not sure I want the hassle this time round. Can anyone recommend a company/individual? I'm based in Warwickshire. I'd also appreciate hearing what the costs were for anyone out there that went this route... to give me a general idea? Many thanks! |
Thread: Omnimill 00 Opinions |
09/05/2019 21:48:58 |
I was wondering if the omnimill owners could recount what sorts of depth of cut are possible with this machine, and probably more importantly is chatter an issue? I imagine the head arrangement is not the most rigid. Another query relates to the lack of a fine feed on the quill, is this a big concern? I like the looks of this miller, one of the few that has the versatility I'm looking for without taking up the whole workshop! |
Thread: D1-4 Cam Dimensions Query? |
16/09/2018 16:36:15 |
Hi everyone, first chance to catch up with the forums. I appreciate the feedback! As has been mentioned I did in fact receive the full ISO PDF, and this is what I copied the diagrams and charts from. I've started modelling up a part in CAD software and using the dimensions given it does seem as though the eccentric radius is free to "float" (i.e. the start and end points are defined in the charts but the radius is not given) and is not perfectly cylindrical, the non bearing surface of the cam being relieved for clearance I assume. However as Murray has pointed out it's probably not hypercritical as the camlock system allows a wide range for effective tightening. I will get it eyeball close and cross fingers! Many thanks again gents, it's appreciated! |

The order of photos and text got muddled up during posting, but the cross section view of the eccentric portion is above the text |
