Agreed it is1/4 BSW nut with a rounded head. I made one for mine from a standard nut and turned it down to the required dimensions.

In my garden I have a Espalier Cotoneaster that is about 10' x 10' and is covered with dozens & dozens of small bees. The hum is a glorious sound to hear. They just go about their business day after day and seem to prefer the Cotoneaster to other flowers. The path is right next to the bush but they take no notice of us and we leave them alone. Where they nest I have no idea but am not really bothered as I will never disturb them. My garden has an abundance of flowers that my wife takes great pleasure in growing. Myself I am not into gardening but am appreciative of her efforts. We get quite a few larger bumbles in the garden and are quite happy to sit there and let them potter around us as they will. Neither of us have suffered a bee stink but have had the occasional encounter with a wasp or two.

Hi Gerry. Where are the vibrations coming from if you have isolated the fan from the hood ?.   I have a fairly large S/S cooker hood with the fan remote via ducting with a flexible joint and have no issues with vibration whatsoever.

Maybe you could hang the hood on flex mounts. If the hood is to be completely built in and hidden you can add sound proofing to the top of it. If it is on show anything you stick to the inside is not going be good when it comes to cleaning the oils & greases given of by the cooking process. I would steer well clear of any combustible materials inside the hood.

Hi Robert. Have you tried posting on the commercial electrical forums. You may find that there will suitable posts to help with your problems. If I were thinking of setting up an electrical system for an engineering business, that is where I would start.

Some where like Link should have up to date info/rules/regulations/practical installation tips. Also a word with your supplier should garner all the info you need.

We seem to have drifted away from "what do you think of this lathe" to "how can I wire up and run a complete engineering shop with several machines with a less than perfect power supply"

As great as this forum is and its great & helpful members I feel that in your position I would want some facetime with the power supplier and the local electrician who is going to do the installation or sign it off for you.

If you are going into business it might be a good idea to look at what actual resources you have to work with.

I always use grease very sparingly on the spindle and oil every where else on my "A"

Sikaflex 252 is my go to adhesive for maximum stick. I have found it will stick almost anything from glass, rubber, plastic to anything else. I fixed my solar panels to the roof of the caravan 8 years ago and they are still there.

Speed cameras still working and bringing in revenue across the country. ANPR vans and cameras still working the roads. Was one at the bottom of my road on Friday. Parking wardens still active in my area.

From the few articles I have read it appears that cases of really high speeds have increased since the shut down, resulting in higher fines and penalties.

A burglary happened in the next street last week and I spoke to the chap yesterday from my window and he said that he has had no visit from the police as yet. So no change there then.

Morrisons posted that they have had a big increase in booze thefts. Our corner shop ( has not closed or decreased hours) has had more attempted shop lifting in the last few weeks. So maybe burglary has declined a bit but social problems have increased many fold.

Most plumbers/pipe fitters use liquid PTFE these days. There are offerings from many manufacturers available. Very little is needed on the threads. I only use PTFE tape now on very rare occasions.

As far back as 10 tears ago when I had a new boiler fitted PTFE liquid was used on the tapered fittings.

Which tip to use for what job really is a matter of experience, type of fuel, mass of job etc etc. I would suggest that you set up some practice pieces and have a go. A tiny concentrated flame can blow right through a thin piece of material whereas judicial use of a bigger flame might give better results. It really is a suck it and see thing.

Practice practice practice and not on the job you are in a hurry to get finished.

Just scrape off the top crispy bits with a Stanley blade. Then run them on the mill. They will soon clean up. Just check that the belts have not cracked where the rust is.
