Hello,

I need to dissasemble the headstock of my Pultra 1770 and remove the spindle. I have read everythng about Pultras on this forum and thankfully have a drawing of the headstock from this forum. I have run into a problem ,I have removed the 4 bolts from the round plate at the back of the headstock but the plate is stuck fast probably with rust. so far I have soaked it in (WD40)penetrating oil from Halfords and tapped every edge of the plate and the outer casing of the headstock with a hammer. I have heated it up but not red hot as I am afraid of warping the casting. I have made metal hooks and hooked them into the inner hole and tried to tap the plate out but no luck.

I have put photos in an album called pultra headstock problem, also the bolt hold the pulley on is seized.20190601_094716.jpg

If anyone has any ideas on how to remove the reqar plate or if anyone has dismantled one of these headstocks and has some photos or if anyone has a manual for this lathe I would be grateful.

Mark WD40 is not a penetrating oil. Use something like PlusGas or even diesel

Roy,

just to let you know the diesel worked I let it soak for week and today I was able to loosen the allen bolt and remove the pulley.(Last weekend I snapped an allen key on this bolt). Next is the bearing lock nuts in the centre of the headstock, now the pulley is off I have a little more access to the lock nuts which are soaking now,so hopefully I can get these moving this weekend or next week..

Thanks again

Mark

Roy,

This is a bit late in the day but it is always useful to have Krano-Kroil for such seized jobs.

Have always found it excellent,

Steve B
