Thread: Agressive Geese on a right of way |
15/12/2020 12:45:56 |
Hello , not a engineering question but I'm sure somebody on the forum can advise on this. I walk across country on public footpaths and on one of my routes I go by a farm, the farmer I'm sure is not to pleased that the footpath is used by walkers so he has a flock of around eight aggressive geese that attack. I have started to re route my walks but how do I stand,, have I any rights on this. Sorry this not a engineering question, Alfie |
Thread: Harold Hall basic grinding rest |
28/06/2020 11:36:45 |
Looking at the two rests the basic looks quite easy to make, with the accessories for end mill cutting on the basic rest would results be acceptable, as for the advanced rest a lot more work and material and dove tail cutter is needed.. The advanced rest looks more up for the job but I just want things to be a bit more simple to make and have a tool for grinding a end mill, the photos show these accessories so why make the advanced rest. That's good Bob, I brought one like that made out of a coconut, I think I'll have a go at making one. Alfie |

Thread: Macc Models |
01/12/2017 16:06:36 |
I have now received a e-mail, and the problem was that they are so busy, and apologized for the inconvenience that I have experienced. So I am happy with the response, as I stated if I was informed of the problem this post would not of occurred. |

This on going problem with my order is still not resolved, others on this forum must be experiencing this. I ordered last Thursday and got a order number, as it had not been processed by Tuesday I phoned them if I could add on to the order, which they did, and paid by my credit card. As it had not been processed I have phoned now many times with the unavailable number, and also no response from my e-mails. If a problem was in the pipeline I would of thought the person that took my call on Tuesday would say a delay in processing, or at least send me an e-mail. This is very bad customer service, if I ever receive this now its going to be at least a fortnight or more I'm sorry to burden the forum with this and do not like to give bad publicity to Macc Models, but all that's needed is a person at the end of the phone or a e-mail that they are experiencing problems. |

Hello. I put a order in at Macc Engineering last week and has not arrived, I have tried to contact them on the phone but unavailable over the last two days. As the company is still advertising on MEW has anyone else had this problem or know what has happened.

Thread: New Lathe Problems advice needed |
20/11/2017 08:22:39 |
I've noticed Chester Tools advertise here on this site, I would of thought they would add a response to this forum. They are not getting a good review especially if one is considering a new machine, two well known suppliers flashing their advertisement next to each other, which one would you go for now. |
Thread: Measuring Tolerances |
04/11/2017 19:53:26 |
I remember getting the new design M&W design combination set around the late 80s and the inspection department rejected it for tolerance, not fit for purpose. At that time I'm not sure if it was manufactured in the UK, I now have one of these combination sets and has been inspected and fit for use, again if made in the UK, purchased around 1993. |

Thread: Parting off |
05/10/2017 19:53:42 |
Thanks for the replies, as I needed to use the ground file at the time it worked fine. I was making a cylinder that needed cooling slots so took a chance.but have a tool on order. Its interesting how did the amateur part off back before HSS was ready available.

I am about to do some parting off using my QCTP, it has a 1/2 parting off tool holder. The problem I have is that I have several 3/8 th bits and they are to small for the holder. I have found a old 1/2 x 1/8th file can this be used if I grind the teeth off, I know that I must keep it cool as not to over heat when grinding. I will be parting off 3/4 steel. Thread: 3/8th indext lathe tooling |
29/09/2017 16:49:30 |
The tools are a set which I got from a UK company, I used 900 rpm on 1inch steel and the finish is a groove like its rubbing more than cutting, as for depth I tried to cut more than a HSS but it sounded dangerous. My eyesight is not as it was and I put one of the tools in without the index in by mistake and it cut great till a load of sparks came flying off. I think they are rubbish as my index boring bar gives me a good finish. But would like to buy a good quality tool if any recommendations please. |
29/09/2017 13:52:24 |
As I asked a question on HSS tooling, I am wondering if the 3/8th index lathe tooling I brought when I got my lathe 2 years ago is just crap. I have just installed a QCTP and made the parts so it would fit, all is nice and tight with no play. The steel I used to make the threaded clamp was cut using HSS tooling and a fair finish was archived. With the now installed QCTP I cut the same steel with the index tooling and It is just rubbish, the same results I had when I brought the machine, thinking that slight play in the top slide was the problem, but was not. Can any recommendations for index tooling be given, as the type I have are only for the scrap bin.

Thread: Lathe HSS cutting tools |
29/09/2017 10:56:52 |
I have a few HSS lathe tools from 1/2 inch to 3/8ths unused with a 60 deg angle on both ends. As a cutting tool has a lot less of an angle why have the tools got this 60 deg angle on them. I would like to grind some tools up but this means grinding the angle off, this is a beginners question so any advice would be appreciated, |
Thread: Myford Super 7 Struggle |
24/09/2017 19:01:00 |
I to looked at a Myford but it had so much wear on the bed I left it alone. My Chinese lathe after some sorting out is very accurate, adjusting the head has made the machine .002mm over 200mm, actually I think its spot on, this has been done with out using a centre when using 30mm aluminium bar. I'm very pleased with the machine, I think Myford has some sort of must have with a new starter. Edited By Alfie Peacock on 24/09/2017 19:02:12 |
Thread: Quick Change Toolpost for a 9x20 lathe |
08/09/2017 00:23:29 |
I have a 9x20 lathe and would like to get a QCTP on it, I have looked at Steve Bedair's site and it looks as if the toolpost's need some work for them to fit the lathe. The toolpost he used is a Harbour Freight 39083, is there a similar type that can be adapted for the UK. |
