Thread: Boiler bushes
26/10/2019 05:52:03

Thanks never new that about brass, very helpful, will have a look in the bits box an se if l have some bronze ,l know l have copper, then it comes to cutting the threads in the bushes 5/16" and 1/8" NTP ,am l right in thinking that cutting this type of thread ,you go in until you have 6 threads left on the tap left, having never cut a ntp before l do not know, again many thanks for the help.

My drawings on my model engines copper boiler ,tell me me to use copper for the bushes,l know copper can be a pig to cut an thread but people say using copper to copper is better to silver solder than say copper to brass or bronze ?

Thread: Fuel
17/10/2019 19:50:42

I am working along on one of my models and have built the fuel tank and burners that will use meths or the like, but the more l think about it would l be better off and more safe if l went over to a gas set up and use butane ,l se you can get cheap pen type soldering irons that l could cut up an use the bits from that and make a tank ,any thinkings on this please.

A couple of bits of info please, small steam chest gaskets can you use auto gasket paper or have l got to wait an order some other type ,and l remember reading a post a while ago that you can use ptf tape for the packing glands and also the piston ? l take it you roll it and make a rope out of it,l know you can get the yarn type but again have none

Thread: Fly wheel size
08/10/2019 18:46:12

Many thanks jason will pass that info on to him in the morning, that will make the old fellas day,l no he was getting into a worry about it,again thanks and to the others for there posts, but must admit them flywheels from rdg look good, may have to get a copy of his plans, then again have had a enough problems with the juliius lanz tractor drawings, but with help from this forum am under way ok now,we hope .

Jason l did ask him today what his plans for the engine were , and its j.a.m de waal ,the engine is 2x larger than the original kerzel engine,l had a ring round today for him about finding some 200 mm round bar but no luck ,unless he orders 3m of it ,so it looks like one way or the other his 150 mm stock will have to do,l did think that mybe you could make it from 20 mm plate joined together ?

Well just had to prove a point, the local farm still uses an old hit an miss engine to drive a saw bench for logs ,and l know they have been getting it ready for the winter job ,now there engine has the two fly wheels and on one side a belt pully ,so asking about it if the belt pully is removed the engine run rough ,put the pully back and the old girl runs sweet ,so looks like jason you are about right.

And yes andrew l think my mate would get the right size stock ,but as he has a length of 150mm dia round ,and its not easy to find bigger ,well unless you buy a full length and take out a loan to buy it ,l think he want to use what he has.

Am asking this question for a friend who has not got a computor he was given a set of drawings of a kerzel type engine that is bigger than the engine that shows up on the net ,any way its looking good but the plans state that the od of the fly wheels are to be 178mm and all he has is stock with a od of 150mm do you engine experts think that difference will be ok please .

Thread: What is it
03/10/2019 18:34:31

Hi bill ,the brass hex piece an rod ,just lock the spindle as you index it ,l think that tool will have a use ,had another look today and it will fit the tee slots on the myford,so could be handy for small boring work, just a thought.

john

03/10/2019 06:35:57

Yes bill there are indeed 24 slots on the tool,to me it looks like it was factory made ? with its chrome part on it and the finish ,its just knowing what it was for and if it is still of use to anyone before l play with it.

john

02/10/2019 19:29:09

Yes jason its held in with a collet, have also got some very small boring bars with it,that go in the head

john

02/10/2019 18:54:54

Well l have looked at them for weeks, but do think jason is right about the tool for cutting internal splines,as for the other one have not got a clue ,l did think about altering it to use in the tail stock for taper turning, but will se if anyone knows what it is before l play with it.
