Thread: NEW SCAM
05/06/2021 10:38:28

Just received a text from Parcelforce @ 09:37 saying they missed us earlier and to book a redelivery via a link.

The link 'looks' valid but I went straight on to the Parcelforce website and entered the 'tracking number' manually and guess what? It's not a valid number.

I entered the mobile number 077750 99726 into a valid mobile search (there are a number of sites that come up as not tested by Norton) and it is located in Indonesia.

If you're a person expecting a delivery you could be easily taken in by this one.

Welcome Bob,

Expect to spend a fair bit on tooling and accessories to kit your new lathe.

What are you thinking of building?

You'll get plenty of help and advice here wink

Thread: 2-Part Covid Vaccinations
16/02/2021 10:51:10

My wife and I were contacted by our respective surgeries by phone for our jabs and had them last Friday and the Friday before, we're 69 & 70. Missus had quite bad reactions, myself not so bad, to the Tizer vaccine.

Thread: Tools and equipment loan list/surplus list

Chris, thanks for the offer, close-ish but not close enough, it's for a Denham Junior mkll faceplate or rather one that nearly almost fits, most frustrating angry

15/02/2021 10:50:14

I agree, a brilliant idea, one thing worrying me though Chris, if you're 77 this year you were born in 1944! Or should another 100 years be added? devillaugh Yes depends on how you read it.

I could do with borrowing a right hand 1.75" x 6 t.p.i. tap to rethread a faceplate I possess if there's such a thing.

Thread: What a disaster! KBIC DC Drive
10/02/2021 14:19:23

This link might or might not help KB Electronics - Manuals

10/02/2021 13:29:46

What KBIC board is it? There does seem to be schematics available so should be possible to id the blown resistor and any others required.

Thread: How not to use a clamp
23/01/2021 21:54:06

Sorry Tug, my comment wasn't targeted at you, I have a great respect for your work and your productive comments. I think you brought up a different scenario concerning faceplate clamping which wasn't the OPs original criticism, I totally agree with you about the correct clamping for the job in hand which Ade had done in his setup but then we had all manner of ex purts stating it was all wrong, the heel of the support would damage the table or twist itself out with all the machining forces when all he is doing is drilling a small hole.

This was a case of a snapshot being taken that put the process completely out of context and after a lifetime of troubleshooting of one type or another I learnt to not make statements without knowing all the facts. wink

I see nothing wrong in this setup, especially to generate 3 pages of comments!

clamping.jpg

2 clamps on the ally plate plus 2 holding the casting down onto the plate onto the bed. He's drilling a 3mm hole! If it grabs what will fail first, the clamps or the 3mm drill bit? I see no rotational forces there that would creates a catastrophic fail.

I've watched most of Ades' videos and he knows what he is doing unlike some others on youtube.

Thread: Has anyone bought and built a Myfordboy engine
05/01/2021 19:34:19

I bought his Aermotor 8 cycle hit n miss engine casting set, excellent castings, came with full set of plans and cd with 160 photos on it but don't expect a step by step build thread.

As an alternative Harold Hall details his offering from bar stock - Tool and Cutter Grinding Head, The workshop practise series 38 is a step by step build of it.

Thread: Mini Lathe problem
28/12/2020 17:19:28

Darren, the dial knob is attached to it wink, a potentiometer is basically a variable resistor and decreases the resistance as you turn it and therefore lets more juice through to the motor which then turns faster, it's bolted through the case.

You can think of it as a sticky accelerator on a car!

Thread: Boiler safety valves slight issue
28/12/2020 16:31:10

Looks nice, newly built boilers can have a tendency to 'prime', that is to eject water out with the steam through the safety valve, should settle dow with further use.

If you run on gas inside make sure you have a carbon monoxide alarm fitted and plenty of ventilation.

Thread: Electronic Lead Screw Project
21/12/2020 22:17:28

Quick question, you are using files you have extracted?

I personally create an ELS folder and unzip files into that location rather than working in the download folder, I view that folder as a holding area for file before moving them into their 'forever' location. You also seem to have a number of duplicate files? I would delete those.

It might not make any difference but will help others to help you.

I'll pm you my mobile number as it might be quicker to talk over what you're doing.

Roger

21/12/2020 16:30:40

start up code composer, you should see 'import project', click on that and use browse from the window that opens and go to your 'electronic-leadscrew-1.3.01' folder, open it and highlight the 'els-f280049c' folder and then click finish if your project has appeared in the window.

That should get your ELS code into composer. If you need further help ask in this thread as others have got a lot further than I have. wink

Best of luck devil

Roger

Have you tried file open, navigate to the folder etc?

21/12/2020 10:53:11

Are you holding the mouse button down while dragging onto code composer?

Thread: I honestly can’t think of an suitable title
17/12/2020 10:42:24

I use Adblock plus and it works well with youtube, some sites can detect it but you can switch adblock off for that page/site if required (needs to be switched off for this forum)

Don't forget there are a large number of information sites that rely on income from adverts to maintain there presence on the interweb!
