Yes I did close my eyes when pressing add to basket. Bit too pricey , but hey ho got to spend it on something. My original dials were all flaking and chipped so needed changing regardless. |

So I joined the forums a few months ago and said I would post some pics of my first ever resporation project when complete. 1978 vintage, fairly well looked after, if a bit rusty in places. I replaced all the bushes, new shims on slideway parts. The slides were a bit rusty they were not worn, so just cleaned those up. New dials, oilers and reblacked most of the fittings. Very enjoyable project and highly recommended if yours is looking a little tatty. Still havent used it as waiting to get a quick change tool post. However problem is now I'm so so tempted to sell and buy a Super 7B to overhaul. |
Thread: Are we the last generation.? |

Part of the problem is a lot of kids want to climb up the ladder and be a manager, so even if they do an apprenticeship with an engineering company, the tech skills are just a mere stepping stone. I know there are a few that want to machine things, but they are sadly getting few and far between. Also companies are just not offering the numbers of places they used to. I joined Rolls Royce in Bristol during the late 80's where 80 odd craft apprentices were taken on. This year there was 5 places availiable. Interestingly I have told a few of my fellow ex apprentice chums about me just buying a lathe and all but 1 said why and looked at me as if I was a Martian? I expected a better reaction than that. |

This standardisation to a Metric collection does get me thinking maybe I should do it for new tasks, would make life so much easier. Luckily I don't have too many unknown sizes so wouldnt take too long to size and sort incase I do need them for something or other. |

Hi all, been a lurker for a while so thought I'd say hi. Not a true model engineer as such, just a bloie that likes making things of all sizes for many different things. Cheers Phil |
