If it is working with one single pase motor then it will probably work with another one. You seem to expect solutions but are not prepared to give much information. You could have at least posted THE picture of the switch together with the manufacturer and model number. Les Calm down Les .... If you'd checked my albums you would've seen the switch in all it's glory .... I was on my phone at work when i posted this so i don't have the motor handy to take a photo of make and model ....Anyways for all the times I'll be needing reverse I'm not going to bother faffing about .... but if i change my mind I'll make sure of at LEAST posting some information of the motor and switch .... |

I used the switch on the old single phase motor that came with the lathe and it's still wired to the old motor . |

Can a forward reverse barrel switch be used on an induction single phase motor . The switch in question is the one in my albums. Sean |
Thread: Cut my first nice thread |

I tried aliminium for cutting my first thread but it was too gummy . So I thought I'd try stainless . Started of slow and easy and for the last two scratch passes I speeded up the lathe and it worked a treat . I took the chuck off tonight to check what tpi thread it was ,I'm a bit confused because there are two kind of half threads at either side of the full threads and I'm not sure which to count . The thread measured .50" across and I counted 4 full threads . Am I right in saying the chuck thread is an 8tpi ? Sean |
Thread: Steel for crosslide screw |

First question is it worth it ? I bought a 1 metre length of 16 x4mm pitch left hand leadscrew very cheaply. It was enough to make three cross slide screws, I also bought 2 bronze nuts to suit. All for just over £50. I now have a new screw and nut fitted a spare screw and nut ready to fit and enough screw to make another left over. Google lead screw lots of suppliers, I used Automotion Components. Not sure if they do imperial sizes but others do. If the spare 16x4 LH is any use to you let me know
I have power cross feed the shaft that drives it is stepped so a straight piece of thread bar wont work . Very kind offer Chris of the 16x4 all the same .

I understand on the bottom of the chart bottom row of figures read thous ,have i at least got that right . This lathe is suppose to be able to cut 72 metric threads and 48 english threads . Thats a lot of variants in the thread world ,all i want is to cut an M10 1.25 thread Much appreciate everyone input since I've joined this forum it's been great . There are no screws on the back ,i wonder does it screw off ? I should add that the gauge is a back plunger style

I bought myself a metric 0-10 mm dial gauge (nothing fancy) so i thought i'd check my chucks run out and the gauge read ... 0.05 = 1.968504 thou 3 times . Thats not bad is it's. The spindle was less it was between 0.0.2/3 . I'm planning borrowing a small hydraulic ram piston from a mate and use it as a test for my tailstock for trueness to the chuck ,he uses it on his lathe and is very confident on how accurate it is .... How trust worthy would the dial gauge be . I have an old Baty dial gauge in a wooden box ,but it feels like the plunger is going through thick oil . I've tried to take the back off to clean it but i can't figure out how to . Any ideas ....
