Thread: ER collet chuck for Super 7 |
15/08/2023 12:39:24 |
Hi Peter RDG Tools does an er 32 collet chuck with Myford thread. I bought one a few years ago for a Grayson Lathe that has the same spindle thread as the Myford. I was very satisfied with it.

Thread: What did you do today? 2023 |
23/06/2023 18:17:15 |
I got fed up with the lathe spindle slipping when I took a cut. It was ok when I could do a 25 thou cut but today it slipped at 15 thou. I bought a Brammer belt last year but life got in the way so I decided I’d do it today. I measured the old belt and removed the excess links. After trying it a couple of times and removing a few more links once it had settled in I was able to take a 100 thou cut. Not bad for an old Boxford lathe |

Hi Paul I am only able to open the old archive files with an Ipad. That includes the old magazines on the last page of the archive library. I have tried everything I can think of to open them on a computer but have failed so far, that is anything prior to MEW 180. I know that the archives are being updated to htlm5 but it is a slow process and i understand that Neil is chaising it at the moment. MickyT |

Thanks for showing your Kick starter. I have found a couple of suppliers of the sprockets and sprag clutch online. I’d like to make the kick starter as I want to make the engine as close to the original as possible but I am always open to surgestions. MickyT |

Thread: Hoglet Kick Starter |

Thats great Jason I was having a little difficulty visualizing the remade part but its clear now. I still had the shaft as 2 parts in my head with the sprag clutch and sprocket attached to the second part on the left but its much simpler with the shaft as one piece probably stronger too. Thanks once again for taking the time to explain it to me and definitely a better option than the bicycle free wheel sprocket that I had found. Regards, MickyT |

I agree after all it’s all about the look. If I can’t figure your original suggestion, although it does seem straight forward, I may ask you to draw it up for me 👍. Thanks again for your help the kick starter is a long way off as I haven’t started cutting metal yet although I have all the metal for the engine ready to go. MickyT |

Thanks Howard never thought simply bearings did them Thanks Jason same with Arc. I had found the part that you had linked in your second post which is why I asked the original question about uk availability. I do like the idea of making the part as you described shouldn’t be too complicated. thanks again MickyT |

I'm about to start building the Hoglet by Randall Cox. I'm in the process of accumulating the materials required. Could any one tell me where i can purchase the slip sprag clutch or it's equivelant in the UK for the kick starter. Or does any one have an alternative way of starting the engine.

Thread: ER Collet chuck for Myford ML7R |
15/07/2020 06:53:45 |
Hi Mark I purchased an ER32 collet check from RDG for a Grayson Lathe which has an identical spindle nose to the Myford and that was very accurate. I have since machined a back plate for a Boxford which I have attached the ER32 Collet chuck to and that is also very accurate. So in answer to your question yes you can machine a new backplate.
