Another option for you to consider. EPDM rubber sheet Roofing Adhesive. Plenty of results from a web search and varying quantity options

Thread: Weekend bank payments

Just checked mine and yes, the immediate payment within 2 hours works 7days a week now. Also shows in the destination account (different bank/account) instantly. Saves waiting to check on next working day.

Very nice to see more small scale work. Another one here in agreement of drawing by hand. Have to get the use out of my 40 year old drawing set made in czechoslovakia. Keep the updates coming.

Thread: Powder coating
08/03/2020 14:08:07

Just to endorse Involute Curve's post. I admit to having panels media blasted and powder coated black as a base for prepping for paint on projects 8-10 years ago (Garden Tractors etc shown in my album).

It offered me the option to take as long as I liked to prep the base finish without risk of any corrosion. As long as I did not expose bare metal I was able to achieve the finish I wanted (with aerosols). The durable glass like finish is still as new.

The guy who powdered the panels knew I wanted to paint and may have used a powder that would accept it. I only had to rough the surface with a green scourer sheet for a degreased key for the first coat of primer on it.

Progress (a little) on the 1" scale Water Cart

Trial fit of the spray bar and fittings today. I knew I would find a use for a section of a 1960s car aerial. De chromed hard brass tube, it was just the right size (5/32".

Have also managed to keep near to the original design of the valve (metal to metal). -

Thread: A change of scale.

Hi Brian, Did all my calculations from 1.1/2" (1/8) to 1/12th using the option you suggested in your question.

x8 to full size and down to 1"- ft. Much of it long hand (keeps the brain active), otherwise calculator into thou.

Do I presume you are downsizing Alchin Dims for your Minnie as well ?. yes.

Although I'm making a steel framed drawbar for the 1" scale Water Cart, I deviated to make wooden shafts as well.

Happy with the first attempt at steam bending hardwood, so have been producing the ironwork for them. Even managed to obtain scale double link curb chain.-

Just a belated welcome John from an old Sussex ilk born 'n' bred. Regularly travelled to Billingshurst to manage private land and grounds 10years ago.

Good machine examples you have. I like most old I/C powered machines. Oldest one for me was a 1921 Villiers MkV powered Mower Pusher from a rusty garden sculpture which now has a renewed life and is in the Hassocks Museum of Gardening if you're ever that way.

Regards Richard.

Thank you Jeff, Mal & Phil. Lettering took about 2 hours for each wheel start to finish. Happy with the result.

Phil, have a look at the bottom post on page one of this (hopeful) link below to give a description. I have more lettering challenges on the plates at each end of the tank, so I'll try and sequence some pics on here at a later stage that may help (he says without checking he has enough lettering left).

Persevere with the Alum Derek. I used it to remove a 10 BA broken tap from copper. Took a week using it cold, but came out easily.

Finished the wheels for my 1" scale water cart. The old riveting tool I made 30 years ago came in handy. Added detail to hubs to reflect the casting pattern-

I went for 6 off 1/8" diameter holes. 1 in each rounded corner of the chamber and 2 (drilled after pic taken) equispaced in the centre of it.

Did a late night cooking job on the Water Cart wheels last night. Long job setting the individual letters around the hub faces. Had to cook one hub twice, as one letter chose to stick to the retainer washer, rather than the hub. Pleased with the result.

Initial check for size and placing the lettering for spacing-hubs.jpg

On removal of the retaining washer after cooking, the sweated the lettering all in right place on first hub-

dsc02151.jpg

Partial clean up of the second hub shows promise-

dsc02148.jpg

Bit more maching on the hubs, then rivet to rims time.

Edit-PS Mods. should've really posted in the Workshop Prog forum. Happy if you want to move it?.

Reached a point where the repetition of making spokes for the wheels of the 1inch scale Water Cart is over-

dsc02145.jpg

I can relax a bit now I've set the spokes to hubs fixings before more work on the hubs detail and fix to the rims-

Spokes are set into recesses in the hubs and fixed with 10ba countersunk screws.

Thread: ML7

+1 for milling with the ML7. It was all I had available over 30 years ago. Had no issues at all with finish or accuracy on an old tired 1949 model. Mainly using gunmetal and cast iron though.

Then again, I was still green and self-teaching at the time, so cautious with the speeds, feeds and d.o.c .

If large area work in steel, I imagine it would struggle.

Still use it to mill, even though I have an old light duty Mill (wm16). I toggle between the two.

Thread: Brian's 1" Minnie Traction Engine

No Offset Brian. Central part of the hub is central to the rim width, so you can make the Wheel build jig where the wheel just needs to be turned over to set the opposite spokes (unlike the rear wheels).

What I think you may've noticed is the licence of the drawing not showing equal widths of the outer covers before the inner one starts to taper down?.

The inner cover provides 3/16" additional spacing each side on the front track width.

Can't offer pics, as I modified those inner covers on mine.

Regards.

Silver soldered the side plate parts and trial fitted the pump on my Wallis and Steevens Water Cart.

Used my recently obtained Vortex V3 blow torch and very pleased-
