Thread: Warco WM250 Lathe and Warco WM18 Milling machine (Advice please) |

If the quill's so far out front to rear, why doesn't the clock finger run off the blade in the side to side video? Something not right here....... |
17/05/2018 20:58:06 |
STK if the head was true to the table as you have already stated, you should not and would not have got a saw tooth cut if milling in a conventional manner. That could only happen if the head was not trammed,or if you had lowered the quill, maybe you did the cut with the quill lowered but you haven't made that clear. If I was paying hundreds of pounds for a product with a specification, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the product to be inside that specification, otherwise whats the point? |
17/05/2018 20:43:34 |
mmmmm, so if (IF) the square, was true, the quill is sitting out of azimuth in both x and y axis. This should only effect drilling operations in conventional use but does show that assembly is not correct. I cannot possibly see how this could simply be adjusted out by the owner and despite Daniels post, I don't believe anyone should accept this level of quality and fix it themselves. |

Yes I tested the column to insure it was correct and it was. I tested it by moving the whole Z axis up and down with the hand wheel I got a reading of about 0.002".
As soon as I touched the quill it went bat crazy 0.025".
I also took Warcos advice and checked the bolts that hold the head onto the column it made no difference what I did ( i had a verdict mounted to see what happend when I loosend and tightend the bolts I got no movemnt in the DTI meaning it was not that knocking it out of play if I had it to tight or to loose).
So let me get this right, the X axis was accurate (within tolerance)? also the Y axis was accurate (again within tolerance)? The z axis was accurate with head to table, however the Z axis of quill to table was not verticly true?
Is that correct? |

I don't agree with you David, Warco say that they have corrected the problem and that it was the operator at fault not the machine. However I can not see what the OP was doing wrong? He explained that with the head static there was no issue, however when using the quill in the Z axis, it was not running truely verticle (unless I have misunderstood?). So how could the OP have simply dialled the movement of the quill withing the casting to correct it? In essence I am saying that either I have completely not understood the actual nature of the problem, or Warco haven't? |

About 18 months ago, I went to an engineering show/event with a view to buying a lathe. I was hoping to get more info about the warco lathes that would be at the show, but once there, the lack of help, answers or interest from the warco team on the day left me in real doubt, so I ended up buying a chester lathe (which so far has been great). Reading this story leaves me with no doubt that I could have safely bought from warco or could buy without worry from warco in the future, they have not been very quick to respond, but they have fully honoured their obligations and you simply can't ask for more than that. Well done Warco. |
Thread: Drinking and Driving. |

Having seen how well the go soft approach has worked over the last twenty years (failed completely IMHO) I would build more prisons and fill em with drink drivers etc. My motivation would simply be to keep scum bags away from people like me so that they can no longer inflict misery onto normal members of society, a bit harsh, yeah maybe but all this pussy footing around is an insult to anyone who has ever suffered the injustice of crime to see the offender get handed down a joke sentence. Oh and before I end, lets remeber that everyone of the offenders chose to walk that path, they were not forced to offend. |

I'm another chap that used both the ward and the herbets as an apprentice, great machines and very capable in the right hands. John Mosley, I was part trained by a chap called Herbet Mosley, very nice gent and an extremely good machinist, based in Crewe many years ago, any relation of yours? |

Thread: Recommendations for a quality milling vice? |
01/01/2018 15:39:45 |
I bought the same vice (I think) from Arc that Jason is showing, at first I had a nightmare with it, it seemed that everything mounted/gripped would lean down at the front (operator end). I suspected the moving jaw was diving as the fixed one couldnt really go anywhere. Just to be sure I re-clocked the table, a couple of tenths at worst but not in that plane, so not that, then re-clocked the vice, emmm couldn't se anything more than about 4 tenths, so I assumed my parralells were not true, not sure why as they had been when I tested them. Anyway it turned out to be a very small ridge at the end of the vice base, directly under the fixed jaw. the machining hadn't gone in quite far enough, I milled it and stoned it and now my vice doesn't show any movement or discrepency when tested with paralells soI'm very happy with it. |

Lastly cant believe the prices they are asking £2100 for cheap chinese at least 10-18 years old about that price new delivered. Similarly M300 gone through the roof as well, last 12 months £1800 - £2700 now £3 to £4.5k. Mine cost £750 8 yrs ago when generally going for £1600 - £2200, there at the right time.
Yeah I think these companies, who appear to be buying up auction stuff and then trying to flog it at stupid prices, are doing Warco a huge favour, even Chester and the others are benefitting from the ridiculas prices being asked.

Here we go, this is a brim, it looks chunky but the brim is the thickness of a couple of sheets of paper. Actually, that's a good test of Z-height and levelling, start a sizeable print and stop it after one layer. If you can peel off a flexible sheet with no holes or splits and reasonably consistent thickness, then your machine is well set up. What are the two lines running across the internal diameter Neil? |

Started off with control line when I was about 15, then old timers with very basic rc when I started to work at 16, I then included helis about 10 years ago, also love model gliding in electric, thermal and slope disciplines. |
