+1 for Bill's suggestion. While reading the thread, the same idea occured to me. A wireless doorbell could even sound in your house, perhaps ? As could a smoke alarm. Both these thongs should not be going off every ten minutes. ATB, Daniel

HI, Personally, I feel that "Pride of Ownership" is quite separate from "Bragging Rights". I confess, I love my tools, and probably spend an inordinate amount of time fondling, caressing and generally caring for them. They are my friends and we work together. Of course, like good friends, they are chosen carefully and must be very capable of fulfilling their side of the relationship. Leaving aside the extremes (e.g, Holtey planes et al), what a particular tool costs, is not a primary concern. If I can afford it, or not, is an entirely different issue. It's feel, it's ability to perform it's function with relative ease and comfort, it's accuracy where neccesary (sorry Dave), are all important to me. If a certain manufacturer then, for whatever reason, chooses to go that extra mile, and make the tool aesthetically pleasing as well, I think that's wonderful. On the premise that they have, first, developed a tool that works very well, why should they not, then, demonstrate their justified pride in their product, by making it something that is worthy of being on display. All this costs, however. I for one, am happy to pay the extra (funds of the moment permitting), for this. Hoping some of the above makes some sense. ATB, Daniel

TPKN version is very good. I am just to tight fisted to pay the price !
I'm hoping that the extra investment of 61 1/2 Pee per insert will repay me in longevity of service, thus rendering myself, joyfully even more tight fisted. ATB, Daniel

Thank's for the replies, people. If I understand well, I can safely order the TPKN version, then? ATB, Daniel

Thread: Milling Insert Clarification |

Good afternoon everyone,
The time has come to replace my facemill inserts. The facemill was bought (with unreserved happiness and joy), some while ago from RDG. Their replacement inserts are coded TPUN 16 03. However, I like to buy my inserts from JB Cutting Tools. Jenny lists this insert as TPKN 16 03. Can anybody enlighten me as to the difference, please ? ATB, Daniel

I must confess, it took a few moments for the neuron to see through your posting name, Phil. Once understood, it did make me smile; well done. A name worthy of Captain Pugwashes crew....! A warm welcome to you. ATB, Daniel

Ha ha Some fishy shenanigans going on here, methinks. Pity, as I agree; It does look like a nice machine for someone. Going to "watch" it anyway, just out of interest. Daniel

Agree pretty much with the above. After years of collecting, one should reflect very, very carefully before disposing of. The amount raised will be disappointing, and a source of serious regret, should you alter your mind once said house is finished. Although I'm not a dealer, I think it's a bit unfair, and naive, to berate them too much. There is nothing hidden in the fact that they are trying to operate a business and need to make a profit. Often within ridiculously tight margins, when all operating costs are allowed for, there won't remain much for their pocket. Duncan's post above made me smile. I've been renovating my place for the last 21 years, and it's still not finished. But, my workshop gives me a place where I can tinker with other stuff, having a break from stuff that I really should be doing ... Good luck with the move, ATB, Daniel

I do have to concur with many above posts; my primary concern remains that of cap removal. If you really must close a bottle, then I think Robert Atkinson is onto something fun and interesting, and could lend itself well to (semi) automation. I like automats. ATB, Daniel

Ha ha ... Probably & precisely like that, Neil. I'm a little out of touch with the magazine these last few months. I've been waiting for the postal/distribution problems to sort themselves out, before renewing my lapsed subscription. I am surprised, however, that you've not received more contributions. Especially with regard to the apparent photographic interest shown on the forum of late. Perhaps the membership is camera shy ? ATB, Daniel

Me too. I hadn't seen this thread before. I think it's a great idea. Perhaps there may be enough entries to support an ongoing section in the magazine, profiling one or two workshops and inhabitants each issue? Personally, I would be very interested to see other members in their natural habitat. ATB, Daniel
