Thread: sealing against white coolant fluid

Has anyone any experiance of this Bondseal **LINK**

20/12/2017 20:29:47

O2 + N2H4 → 2 H2O + N2 Is the corrosion inhibitor

The biocides can be C02 or metals such as copper and its alloys (brasses, bronzes, cupronickel, copper-nickel-zinc, and others

This is all i can seem to find but the PH4 seems the biggest problem does anyone know of a sealant that is capable of working in chmical enviroments with a ph4 or above?

Thread: Single phase to 3 phase motor conversion.
20/12/2017 20:21:10

Well in my experiance I was told by many people to go for a small motor and small inverter . The motor being of the make you stated in my case was in my opinion faulty and never returned to me. I would not buy another or anything this small in my opinion they are suited for sewing machines. ( I dont want to get into another rant lol did this along time ago and lost money over it) Instead i found a nice 1.5Kw 3PH motor on eBay thats been brilliant.

Now the odd thing about inverter i have experianced. I decided having not the money to buy a new inverter after it was returned as faulty and delvered back with no faults was to connect it up to this motor. To my suprise this all worked through the gearbox and was not the correct power rating for the motor go figure!. I am not suggesting you do the same as I dont know why this is working as really i should have a 1.5kw inverter. It could be my gearbox is dealing with the torque.

I guess what i am saying is invest in the best motor and inverter you can afford. its more important really what gearbox you hve it ll connected too.

i dont think its water after its mixed as it turns into an emulsion

Thread: sealing against white coolant fluid
20/12/2017 20:03:17

HI David , thanks for the reply .

I am unsure about silicon as it does say on it it does not support chemical environments, an really not sure whats in this white stuff other than an emulsion i found a wiki thread but t didnt help. I unly really want to do this once as want to ensure the plate my lathe sits on does not leak between it and the angle iron it sits in that i have around it ttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutting_fluid  it suggests it has a ph of 4 which is corrosive. I also understand there is bio addatives to prevent mould growing in the liquid and corrosion inhibitors as well as the addatives for cutting and cooling.

Hi i delved back into the Cinese market and bouught one of these:

1.5l pump fom china

It seems to work ok and have removed pressure guage and replaced with 10mm . I am aware a mate uses a oil cutting flued that when you add it to water turns milky white . I am trying to find out what he uses . I searched and came across this old thread.

Hi everyone.

I have a question, can anyone tell me what the chemical formula is for the emulsified white cutting compund used on lathes and or mills. My reason for asking this is I need to find a sealant that i can use that is resistant to ths solution. I am presuming silicon or boss white is no use here as these are intended for plumbng? Have an idea it might be from chronos  MG1 or MG5 or Alusol but this has no chemical info on it .

Lol, Niel , backing up data and measuring parts i have made a quiet day pondering if i should risk trying to buy another chuck after the last one didnt turn up and the seller has disapeared from the bay.

Thread: Looking at a new lathe, most are 3 phase so use a converter or change motor??
08/12/2017 17:34:24

3 phase all the way my friend the other is voodoo or black science known only to a few. Its easier to blow your motor up too than 3 phase. Althought it seems expensive stick away from companies selling inverters unless you know what you are buying. asks friends or people that have working kit

More inportant than the motor choice is the gerbox that it uses to reduce the speed of the motor to the lathe. Not all motors run at the same rpm so it is important you know this and the hp of the motor minimum. There is a lot of debate about this. I have a small lathe with 1.5hp 3ph motor . Its brillant never underpowered. Some lathes have them already made or are available as an extra when you buy.

I made mistakes with mine costing me hundreds as I brought to low powered motor . I wish I had followed the advice of a friend and went with 3ph more expensive in first place . Have now been round the loop twice .

it is correct pitch 1" x 12tpi but cant understand why it wobbles

25/10/2017 12:26:44

I brought a chuck converter from ML7 to Drummond from Myford Ltd and its seems to wobble on the shaft when its screwed on tight . Am talking to Myford about this but have no clue whats wrong. I may have to find a chuck backplate for my 4" bernard instead?

First try of my new tool post holder having milled down my new parts from Myford ltd to build a new top slide i manage to purchase a Myford Toplpost and box.

http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/albums/member_album.asp?a=45345

This fitted straight on and was very happy with my clearance . I found a billet of aluminium and too a little off it . The lathe ran fine . I just need to find a top slide dial now

Cover fist fit to stop coolant cutting fluid splash

finally getting somewhere this fits like a dream

Thread: strange allen bolt on crossslide handle
02/10/2017 21:19:23

Wow great sketch Mark wonders if this is all it is for? Have been through all my allen sets and nothing fits it.

Should this whole handle just come of on a screw thread then . Is there any simple ways to unscrew it from the slide screw? Is it the same as top slide ad it just needs some force to unscrew it?

Martin :D

30/09/2017 15:53:37

I have a strange allen bolt on my cross slide handle . I was trying to un screw the handle which wont budge and noticed this what seems to be an allen bolt. I can find mothing that fits it but wonderif it undoes bll or handle , Can ayone help?

Thread: Broken tap in expensive unit!
13/09/2017 19:49:02

Use a specialised drill with one that will cut a carbide tip if your going to drill out. You are foobar if you cant get it apart and mount ir rock solid in drill press.

Cheep taps are the problem . Dont buy Cheep taps. This rings in my own ears as have done this many times.

Tap removers are really not good . Have tried several and they bend.

If you can get some lubricant over several days into it try that first . Then try to get something small and like spring steel into the chanels on the tap and try and rotate the three you insert with strong accurate pliers . Try this first you might be lucky go gentle with it.

Ah , thanks Steve, Am going to have to redrill my old picador pulley to get back to 1" as cant find a 24mm bore pulley which is 1" anywhere. That is interesting information thank you

30/08/2017 20:27:18

OK THANKS EVERONE

Somtimes you need to look twice have found the limiter an set it to 50hz. Am still quetioning why its only drawing 1 amp .Is this more to do with the load my bearings etc. The motor plate states 5.5/3 does this not equate to real world value?

Thanks again
