I wish. To line it ,floor it etc would cost way over what I have. I dont want to start talking about that too much as I know how to keep rust off etc. Just how easilyvare dro s removed please?

Buying a warco wm 14 and would like dro on it . Can any warco owner tell me please if its as easily removeable . Dont want to risk buying new one all the time .

Thanlk you

Thread: Pennydarren

Thank you Tim.
Actually my aim is to bring all the little bits of lathework I ve done over the years, learn a lot and produce something unusual
I m inspired by a plastic kit!!
Then the gear hobbing video.!
I probably have mild steel about the right thickness but is it practical to use a tap to cut the thread with,?brass would be softer. Not even sure what will power it ,probably a little electric motor. As long as I can produce something that looks ok and provides me with a steep learning curve. The latter is assured🤔

Having just seen a you tube video on primitive gear hobbing I was impressed by its simplicity and er primitiveness!I want to make a copy a small Pennydarren and would like to machine the gears this way.
2 questions
I dont want too fine a thread so I think whitworth but which?
The gears are only going to be 3 /16 or so width
What metal should I use ?
Lokks like I ll have to buy some as one is quite big -2 inch ish .diameter and meehanite cast iron might be pricy!
Thank you

If you have trouble with 0mt arbors I found my new ones were a little slack .I ground the end off and just managed to tap it about 5mm and use a bit of studding as a drawbar. It just pulled it up unlike Lathe Bits on youtube who unfortunately had much more rattle on his.
Also found the threaded arbor and a nice little bar operatex chuck with same thread from RDG/CHRONOS .As Lathe Bits I also bought 0mt reamers but they fit the tailstock as it is.Seems to be quite a varation in 0mt standards!

Both..On my little lathe at any rate its only the leadscrew that needs changing and it came with both sets of changewheels anyway
Thread: bsf thread

I ll take it back..I assumed it would have 12mil..BT wifi means no wifi to us..couldnt get online to find information..Not being anywhere near my workshop and tools I couldnt check it..
Having made sure I bought an imperial lathe to suit a lot of things I inherited I hadnt realised I d end up making my own studding and screws! Better get a move on..thank you

Having just bought 2 x 1/4 inch bsf set screws and nuts for £2 I immediately decided to start making my own..
I was given metric equivalent 1/2 inch bar for 1/2 bsf..When I got home found it was 11 mil..Cant imagine why but nor can I find out( we have BT wifi!! ) if its too small .Wondered if anyone was looking who could tell me so I can take it back..
Thank you very much

Got it.Thanks..Jonathon
09/08/2016 23:11:06
Ah..Yes..Actually I d thought of something like that but thought the expanding bits will crack after a while..Bit like a reverse collet..What can I make it from ?
09/08/2016 22:45:33
Now I m doing a fair bit of threading on my lathe I want to make a mandrel handle..Very simple except how to attach the shaft to the mandrel..It s a smooth tube through to the backplate and chuck..As its a speed controller type I really dont want to take it out to alter it..How please? Jonathon

I have a little Chester Conquest and an Amadeal xj12 300 mill..Both very nice machines..Although price per lb (or kg) I would probably go for the slightly larger amadeal lathe too.. A very good looking and, unusually in the same breath, also very useful basic book has been written by our editor about minilathes..
You do have to be careful about material and depths of cut with speed controller lathes .Take very small cuts until you get used to it and one day if you do stall it you ll know what not to do next time!
