did you try the lamp test? - a squirt of switch cleaner on the pot might well suffice (buy a spray can of servistol or similar from RS or Farnell)

Warco is generally very helpful and once this lockdown is over (if ever) it might well be worth a visit if phone/emails aren't successful

could you start with a SS cutting disk and then add the boss
eg as part of a parcel of bits I wanted I have maybe 8 or so 80mm dia 1mm thick sharpened to a cutting edge as used for meat slicing of those lumps of cooked mince seen in many takeaway establishments

the usual suggested 1st test is to disconnect the motor and replace with a 60-100W incandescent lamp - if the speed control alters the brilliance then you know the fault lies in the motor if not then somewhere in the control board tho that can be expensive to replace tho it may be as simple as a worn pot that controls the speed. I have a WM180 as well and was told always turn the pot to lowest speed before switching back on

Paul - look at the HTML code - they attempt to plant a pixel if they find Javascript turned off - blatant attempt to track those who block other methods

Ady1 that is exactly my scheme - for many near spam mail (eg had from from my local council - useful text less than 100 words but this 'painted turd' of a message required 70kB of associated junk due to various formating etc - as to tracking my approach is that all American companies treat customers as fodder for advertisers, many British companies follow this and hide any supposed agreement in the small print - don't expect the UK government to do anything about it the companies are too powerful even tho they pay little or no tax.

Well known - if users are stupid enough to use web mail readers then this is what they can expect - exactly the same as the owners of this site attempt to place a facebook tracking pixel here.

The same trick of attempting to load from an external source is also used to attempt to load malware - I've also seen attempts to address the common addresses for your router and use the default password to reset the DNS provider address to force all traffic to pass through their system (luckily most mail systems block these tricks now)

There used in early to mid 90s, to be a suite of tests, 'Bobby' tests if my memory serves that evaluated a web page against a set of criteria for suitability for readability etc given certain visual impairments - quite strict but at the time I think it was a Federal requirement for public facing pages - I know my initial web site failed on many until I fixed the pages - don't think it can apply now as I doubt if any modern web page would pass except I think some of the Government pages

in late 70s took a holiday in Soviet Russia as was my wont in early January - that year a coach trip for a week visiting the historic monastery towns around Moscow - it was about -25 that year so the coach had a fire lit under the two diesel engines (1 power, 1 to provide heating etc on the coach) each night - started 1st thing each morning

and that was entirely the reason that the original HTML allowed the individual user to alter the presentation format.

Until this thread I had never realised the site used a grey background - I overrode all site defined colours in favour of my own including text font - by using the brightness on the laptop display (a simple control in Linux) I have had comfortable viewing with my old eyes for years - as I've pointed out before the original HTML standard which assume full user selection was prostituted by commercial interests

Firefox has a very useful 'read text' icon that strips out all the extraneous 'junk' from a page leaving it very easy to read - my 1st click on many websites as it gets rid of most adverts etc - might well be worth checking out what this does to the new format - in older browsers I'd generally click 'no style' as this too greatly simplified the flow of text.

on a different tack tho unlikely to ever see the real traffic of this site my guess is that if the photos on the main page were reduced somewhat in size that one of the many hosting sites could handle it for about ?600-700 per year which is covered by maybe less than 100 people taking out subs

the New Zealand quarantine at the border shows that 28 out of 162 positive tests since Jan 1st this year were deemed historic and non-infectious - ie their test is v sensitive and nearly 1 in 5 positive tests were actually of old infections - this ratio seems from their statistics to be increasing as returning kiwis are more likely to have had covid in the previous year

I hope the album feature can be fixed by the 1st April when it looks as tho the new format will be upon us - tho not personally affected many of the albums give a good sequential flow of images in some build

it may well be worth a trip to A&E if still operating - some years ago I trapped the end of a finger rather badly, cursed and waited for it to heal - a couple of weeks later it still felt wrong, the GP sent me onto the specialist section at the hospital, quick xray indicated I broken the tip of a bone on the 1st joint and it had started to heal in the wrong position - was told "you should have come earlier before healing started" but wearing a splint forced it back into a more normal but still wrong position.

It is depressing to read just how much the original + still valid ideas of Tim Berners Lee have been prostituted in the name of commerce and attention getting - his original, and to me the all important one, was to present the information in a form the user could readily change (eg by altering font size, type, background + text colour etc - not only did this allow all the options above it also allowed the easy use of speech synthesis for those with impaired sight.

Michael - the profit from this site is that made by tracking users and delivering their details for directed advertising - forced login etc is just one way but the whole system owned by some 2 or 3 mega commercial non-tax-paying companies uncontrolled by local laws must end soon as many countries have now realised the social damage they have inflicted and will continue to do unless some control is imposed - this site is just a tiny cog in this surveillance system

Join a local ME Society if you haven't already - they often hold rummage/disposal sales of which once we can all meet up again there should be many as there will be 18month's or more pent up supply by next autumn.
