Pump gear drilled and tapped. It still needs some M2 Allen bolts for assembly and the flanges filed to match. Once the 3/16" bronze balls arrive I can pop them in and file the plugs flush.

I see some nutter has fitted a turbo to one, now that I imagine will be heard throughout the land.
(or at least the scream when he sees his insurance quote).

Evidence for 900 year old Triumph and how to build a motorcycle...

I use an old lever grease gun head as a small pump.

Thread: Which files should I buy

>>I have in my mind that Nicholson (?) files are supposed to be good quality? Does anybody know if this is the case?<<

Yes, the older Nicholson files were good, I have a SnapOn branded set of Nicholson warding files from the 70's, as good as the day they were made.
I believe their newer files are sometimes stamped 'Brazil'

I use Vallorbe/Grobet files now, mainly an 8" second cut. Best money I've spent on tools.
I get mine from Axminster, there are many other suppliers.

Had LS running (sort of) on air, the valve needs timing.

After a fortnight moving the sister-in-law and a lurgy I'm trying to get on with Lady Stephanie again. Got the parallel motion roughed out.

The Victorians worked out decent scope mounts. 'Keep the weight between the bearings' and you won't go far wrong.
Just been helping sort out the dec drive on the 28" at Greenwich, a rigid yoke on substantial piers.

I also saw PM's heavy mount when it went to AWR for a refit. It never came off the pallet, too heavy to move manually.

Haven't had much shed time over the last fortnight. I have done some small parts and made a start on the radius links, may have more pics next week.

Looks like your casting kit has more brass parts than the gun metal I had Nick.
Are you not tempted to finish it? I wondered about working in fiddly miniature too, but a set of magnifying goggles helped no end.

Parsons still make their enamels, very tough and hard wearing, easy to apply with brush or spray.

It's all proportional to the V^2 rather than the M.

Thread: Lathe Super C3 or SC2

+1 for the SC3.
I acquired one earlier this year, excellent value for money.

I fitted tapered roller bearings from day one and replaced the single half nut with a pair of nuts after a couple of weeks.

Peerless support from Ketan et al at Arc.

I use a Wilko bike computer, £5 or less, comes with the magnet as well

Thread: How often do you use the morse taper in your lathe headstock?
07/12/2015 08:05:45

Depending what jobs come in I might use the mt3 spindle taper with Morse collets every day for a week, then not for a month.
Made an adapter to take little Jacobs type chucks too so it earns its keep.

I use acetone, cheap and easy.

Thread: Internal Combustion Engine Supercharger

One of my teachers, the late Charlie 'Cog' Wheeler had several 7s, one of which had a tiny brass Shorrock blower.

He also tried using a minor 1000 air pump as used on US export models to help clean up the exhaust.

Then he settled on a modified Alpine conversion kit for a minor 1000, worked well for many years in daily use.

Superglue or double sided carpet tape.
