Okay, as I said not an electrician but seems I'm easily confused, I usually use the meter for continuity cables etc just didn't seem right to my uneducated brain and assumed their was a short somewhere in the cable. Tomorrow I'll try the pump out in a bucket of water don't wanna fry the newts, thanks fellas

Tried to install a new pond pump 240ac today, when I put a multimeter across the live and neutral pins on the plug found connectivity between the 2 wires, now I am not an electrician but don't think that should be happening. Have asked the supplier for advise by email not heard yet. My son in law is a qualified greeny but on holiday in Malta, anyone remember "Srait Street" aka " The Gut "

If I was a younger man given the UK's current position I would be seriously looking at the opportunity to start manufacturing, there are plenty of things we could make for ourselves and for exports, there are a lot of the skills in this country of ours and we have a proud history of invention and innovation, lets be optimistic

When I was a lad me and Gramp went to the local scrapyard on a Sunday morning followed by a bottle of IPA in the local hostelry, always late for dinner but pleased with the pile of rust we brought home, Nan wasn't impressed

Hi Mark,

I would have thought stitching (as they do on engines) would be worth a try, or could you patch with a plate extending each side of crack and bolting through and nutted
