250lbs. How you going to lift it? Some pictures of that operation might be helpful for others getting this size.

.

2 people. Strongest one at the headstock end. Any more than that on a small machine and they would get in each others way.

I have no experience of this range of lathes so I am perhaps talking broken biscuits here.

But it is no secret that increasing the mass and lowering the balance point of any machine tool is a good thing. Even more so the smaller they are.

As such I would be tempted not to store tools etc in the base cabinet cupboards but to take a trip to B&Q (or similar) and buy a few bags of sand or pea gravel and house them in the cabinet base cupboards. Perhaps even decanting them into smaller bags so one could get more in.

Just an idea. Perhaps a misguided one though.?

OK serious guess.

Jason mentions "it is" as in the singular. So one item in a couple of boxes. It's also from ARC

My guess is it's a CNC milling machine. Yes / No. ?

Charles. For heavens sake don't start machining bits of the 'as supplied' machine. Especially so by your own admission you have limited experience.

Keep contact with Warco who have it in their best interests to sort this for you. - Perhaps even link them to this thread so that they can see what steps and measurements have been taken already. This will eliminate and confusion over the telephone.

Start cutting metal from the machine at this stage and you will run the risk of Warco walking away.

Stay positive. ............ 5h1t happens.! But as I said it's in Warco's best interests to assist you.

Thread: Beam engine piston ?

Posted by Mick B1 on 29/08/2017 10:45:12:

Why not brass with a greased string packing ring?

.

Or even aluminium for a nice light piston that will have less mass and assist the engine to run more smoothly at the lower speeds associated with beam engines.

Their plastic calipers aren't primarily meant for metalworking, but for surfaces that might be damaged or scratched by metal equipment.

Neil

.

Just to be clear. Although I used the term 'Plasticky' the items I have are not actually the plastic range ones. cheeky

M&W 'budget line' products are made in the far east.

I bought one of their verniers when I first started the ME malarkey. After a couple of months it started throwing random readings ever now and again. At first I thought it was me that kept making wrong measurements. Changed battery, cleaned etc.

Got to the stage where I did no longer trust it and it got binned.

Also have one of their 6" height guages that was I think about £100. Feels, looks and is generally low quality and 'plasticky' I am sure there are much better options out there for the money.
