Thread: Chuck RPM counter

Posted by Andrew Holdaway on 11/07/2017 22:12:30:

I fitted one of these eBay revcounters rather than make one. It works perfectly and is cheap!

.

I have one of these. Power supply is made from an old phone charger.

Thread: Stripped Bevel on K&B outboard engine

Little knowledge of the specific problem but I do remember K&B were of American manufacture. As such I doubt the gears will be of metric origin but more likely Imperial pitch.

People have mentioned Volvo and their pledge and they have also mentioned the problems HGV's will face with the technology.

Ain't Volvo a major player in the HGV manufacturing market.?

U-pol works for me.

.

I have also used U-pol and Isopon P38 on castings with good results.

I did do a final clean 5 mins before application with acetone.

Thread: getting a mill over to Ireland
09/07/2017 16:09:02

.

As for getting it to the Emerald Isle. Get the supplier to secure it firmly to a stout pallet and then let a delivery company that delivers to Ireland do what they do.!

Try to get one that delivers on a waggon with a tail lift though.

HI Guy`s

The other day i saw a picture of a Boxford vm30

Thanks Jimmy

.

I can do a bit more than a picture for you in the form of a video.

Since I got it I have generally been very happy with it and it has done all I have asked. Just wish it had a quill on it though and a little more 'head room.

Thread: quick change tool post for Myford ML7.

Have a look at the multifix type ones. like the ones in the link. **LINK**

Dickson ones are also first rate as are many of their clones. But beware some of the clones are about as rigid and as much use as a block of mouldy cheese.

You obviously couldn't do this if you've uploaded directly to a site.

.

I seem to recall one primadonna member we had here that stored the images to his build log upon this site.

On one of his throwing his toys out of the pram escapades he just simply deleted the album thus the threads relating to the images lost them and thus made no more sense than broken biscuits. - In this case it was particularly selfish as many members had also contributed much time, effort and thought to his threads.

Come on folks. .......... We are all big boys here.!

You must all be aware that nothing that is free and worth having lasts forever.

Although I will say seemingly they have been a bit underhanded in the way that they are conducting themselves like drugs dealers. - Give the product away for free until users get hooked and then start charging top dollar to continue supply.!

Thread: Lots of Bearing Races to dispose of?
06/07/2017 23:09:43

.

I maybe being a bit crass here and some may be horrified at my blanket statement.

Those is sealed packaging are desireable.

ZZ or RS ones (enclosed types) not in packaging maybe of some use but then there is the hassle of going through and measuring them and then logging them. Some maybe metric and some of course imperial.

The open type bearings that are not in any packaging and therefore exposed to the crud of the world. IMHO chuck them in the bin.! surprise Maybe of some use as spacers for holding work on a milling table and similar though.

That is unless they all want to spend $40 a month to continue using it...

.

HOW MUCH.?? surprise

I have recently knocked together the bones of a new website this week

I only paid a little more than that for 200 GB of storage for a whole year.!

When I was in the hosting control panel setting up for it to take 'Wordpress' I did notice that there was a ready made facility for photo galleries. - Maybe perhaps a good idea for some to purchase their own domain and webspace that they then have total control of.

They also do very cheap packages for 25 GB of storage (couple of quid a month I think) - Which if images are properly sized for display on sites is an awful lot of images for most peoples needs.

"When I were a lad" I remember a little book from the library by F J Camm

.

And if my childhood memory serves me correctly was he also the brother of Sydney Camm the chap that designed the Hawker Hurricane.?

Nick

Edit :- Yes he was just googled him and read Wikipedia. It was as an RF engineer he was best know for. As for Sydney he it seems did much, much more than just the Hurricane. - Clever boys.! Must have been a very proud lady must Mrs Camm.
