Thread: How on Earth Do I Sort This Lot Out?! |
26/05/2022 09:10:54 |
Hi John Thanks for the update, am in the process of rejigging the main photo with your amendments. I may possibly have a suitable piece of gun metal to make up for the missing piece The 2 "extra" bearing castings seem to be a bit smaller and are cast iron NOT bronze or GM, here is a close up: Cheers, Martin |

Thanks John, I will resign the photos to show your amendments. Obviously I want to try and get this right so whoever ends up with these gets the right parts. Cheers, Martin |

Thanks Jason, I have now separated out the Sanderson bits, 30 castings + 3 small machined parts. Looks like a full set which is nice? Cheers, Martin |

Thanks Jason, Could you please let me know which bits are for the Sanderson n the 4th pic? I will then update the photo with all the parts. Interestingly, some of the small parts in the plastic bags are labelled in Braille! Cheers, this is a big help. Martin |

Hi All, Local chap just dropped by and asked me: "Is this lot any good to you before I chuck it in the scrap?" I said it was and we had a deal for not very much but twice what he asked for it. Looks like bits from several engines in various states of construction but how on earth do I sort it all out? Any help most welcome. Cheers, Martin |

Many thanks to all for that help on these items, much appreciated. Cheers, Martin Michael, "Wedges" I love it! I well remember seeing girls tottering about Chelsea wearing those, a broken ankle waiting to happen! |

Any thoughts on the Zinc Oxide paste? Cheers, Martin |

Hi All, Interesting thread for me as I have had to remove a large circuit board from a woodworking lathe to have it repaired. When I undid the retaining screws and went to slide it out of the steel casing the bottom was covered in a thickish white paste. The manual said this was to aid heat conduction from the alloy heat sink to the casing. I believe there was a mention somewhere else in my research that this would be Zinc Oxide paste. Would this be correct and is it the same Zinc Oxide as the old fashioned ointment of the same name? Cheers, Martin |

Derek, Years ago we shot a TV commercial in Frinton, all I remember is it did not have a pub! Sorry for the small hijack Michael! Martin |

Hi All, I once got into trouble at school in our 6th form revue for my "skit" I slowly walked on stage carrying a galvanised pail, placed it on the centre of the stage, took two or three steps back, ran at the bucket, kicked it over shouting "BUCKET" loudly but distinctly. Audience loved it but I got a talking to from my house master! Cheers, Martin |

Hi Jason, I would like to use Pocketmags but have no idea where my subscription number might be. I have had the digital option now for years and just use the forum viewer but it is a bit clunky so thought I might try what you suggest. Cheers Martin |

An interesting metal! Must not be allowed any where near an aircraft or anything made of alumnium alloy as it forms a grain boundary solution with zero mechanical strength and a little would go a VERY long way! Same as mercury also bismuth chucked in a brass or bronze pour totally screws it up! Funny what you remember from Uni all those years ago! Cheers, Martin |
Thread: SENIOR Mill for someone? |
06/05/2022 17:11:25 |
Hi All, Just got back from picking up some auction lots and noticed that there were two nice machine tool lots, one unsold. First was a nice Myford ML7 partially restored with ALL parts and lots of tooling which made £320 (+20% commission) The second lot was this Senior Milling Machine as shown. Again, partially restored and absent the horizontal arm. When I talked to the auctioneer he is looking for £350 +comm. I think that it got bid £300 and not sold. I have no idea if this is good value but I post it here in case it is of use to someone. It is not going anywhere over the weekend and I will be happy to provide the auctioneers details. I would have bought the Myford like a shot but was threatened with beheading with a blunt axe by The War Office who was with me! Cheers, Martin |

Hi All, Still making progress on this project, albeit pretty slowly! Just finished struggling with the fitting of the gas strut which is supplied at nearly 4 times the pressure I need. You have to put it under load then slowly release some gas a bit at a time until it is working as you want it. Holding it is a safe and controllable manner was a bit iffy on my own but eventually I used a small sash clamp and lots of gaffer tape! These are the table rotation controls: Table still to be made, will have a go at the 2 Tee slots wh ich I suspect will give my mill a real workout! Here it is in Horizontal mode: I see that this is apparently not of much interest so will only post more when it is done. Cheers, Martin |

Neil, A long while back I worked on a film with Ridley Scott directing using 150 Canon SLR cameras and a 4 Tonne motion control rig to do a time slice segment for an industrial company promo. Really hard to get your head round even when you know what is going on! Working out the playback frame rate was a nightmare, fortunately a 20yr old whiz kid was on hand to tell me the numbers!
