Hi All, This mornings haul from Cheddar included this nice tool by Cornelius WHITEHOUSE of Cannock, so probably pretty collectable. My first thoughts are that it is a floorboard lifter with nail pull but not totally sure about this, any other thoughts? Cheers, Martin |

Michael, ooohh! Nice buy! Today at Cheddar I was 4 feet away from a chap at a table just as the seller removed a large box from his boot and took out a large complete scratch built steam engine and boiler unit in nice order only for a hand to grab it and say “how much’; seller said £70…… I went away to find a quiet corner to cry in….. That is the fun, (or not so) of car boot sales. cheers, Martin |

Thanks Jason, You are correct as usual, just re-measured the flywheel and it is indeed 5" NOT 6"! Anything obviously missing? Cheers, Martin |

Mike, What a beautiful model, I admire you skill! Thanks for the info. Does it look like a complete set or is there something obvious missing? Cheers, Martin |

Hi All, This lot was at the bottom of a box of tools just bought at auction, not sure of the engine number, No:9 comes to mind? These seem to be quite early items as their address was still in Guernsey and Stuart do not seem to to offer the governor kit any longer? Not sure how complete the set is? All help gratefully received as usual Cheers, Martin |

Hi All, Now all cleaned up and working as it should: Neil: the largest plunger is 16.5mm diameter; the smallest is just over 5mm; the idea was too gradually draw down a thin disc of pure gold into a "jacket" that could then form the outside of the crown. Different sized plungers for different sized teeth. It involved lots of annealing I suspect? Thanks again for all the help here. Cheers, Martin |

Hi All, Here we have a very well made rotary turret screw press item with 15 different sized holes and plungers with a locking screw at the side. The plungers seem to have a small amount of clearance in the holes. No ID anywhere on the tool that I have found so far but it is quite grubby. Not sure whether to lean towards leather working or jewellers trade? Any thoughts welcome! Cheers, Martin |

Hi All, Sorry to have been so tardy but have been very busy with lots of tool restorations and listings. All tucked in with some very nasty bouts of BPPV, less than ideal! Michael G: I have checked the markings with a good vcaliper and they are all spot on inches and fractions, all the same width so no vernier. F Fury: I have had several coopers croze tools and all have bee pretty much on the rough and ready side rather than precision as this part indicates. I do however feel you may well be on the correct track.. What may not show clearly in my photos is the fact that the grooves are cut very much at an angle to the plane of the main surface as if they were to take a sliding part of some sort. I agree that I have the photo upside down almost certainly. Curiouser and curiouser! Cheers, Martin. |

Well, we can discount jewellery making, but my friend suggested another line of enquiry: His reply: Hi Nigel, It’s nothing to do with silver or metalsmithing as far as I am aware. My thoughts would be a mount for a scientific/ maritime instrument? Cheers Adrian If scientific, possibly a school laboratory instrument, by its simple but rugged construction? Over to you Michael? I think the underside is certainly for some sort of tee slot...? The rule markings are extremely well don and precise? Cheers Martin PS Wait until you see the next item which has me completely stumped also..... |

Hi all, A tool dealer pal came round this morning to offer me his first batch of items that he had put aside for me and in amongst it was this oddity: Made of brass over a hardwood backing. Seems to be part of something else but no idea what? Has strange ridges in the top half: Rear is like this: Has makers nicely engraved initials of HS or SH Any thoughts anyone? Cheers, Martin |

Hi All, Have had quite a few of these lovely instruments over the years. VERY limited market and they really don't make much when selling, we no longer buy them on their own. Cheers, Martin |
