Hi All, Bought a bunch of instruments at auction last week and have started going through the items. One is this O2 analyser for welding use. It is supposed to have a 4 digit readout between 0 and about 25% (O2) so should read approx 20.84 when fired up. With a new battery it shows this readout; and nothing happens when the pump is used. The main agent wants a whopping £150 for a new sensor which sound like a lot. Would anyone know if these parts are available for other uses etc? Any thought swould be much appeciated. Regards, Martin |

Hi All, Fusion360 offers the option of just showing a thread form in a drawing/model or actually modelling it in the file. It is a simple check box in the thread dialog box. Cheers, Martin |

Thread: sievert gas torch |
17/06/2020 09:48:55 |
Hi All, I recently got rid of the two or three gas torches that I had from old tool lots having never had much success silver soldering, Could never seem to get enough heat into the jobs even though they were usually quite small jobs. Spent what I got for those on a new Sievert kit and couple of different nozzles from CUP Alloys and have never looked back, now soldering is a real pleasure and I use the smaller nozzles for heating to free off parts etc. Usual disclaimer, just a satisfied customer. Cheers, Martin |

Thread: What Did You Do Today 2020 |

Hi All, Completed the first of a few small flasks made from the top section on 30mm shell cases. Good practice for my screw thread cutting, many thanks to Michael Gilligan for his help with that! The interiors will be lined with a resin coating which has worked well on the shot "glasses" made from the bottom sections. Quite a fun little job and good for ones confidence! Cheers, Martin |

Hi All, My neighbour's eldest son has just been given his first Royal Navy command (minesweeper) and he asked me to make a set of six "shot glasses" from used steel 30mm shell casings. Did this for him and they turned out and polished up well, he is going to put a resin coating on the inside. This left me with 6 shell casing tops that were going in the scrap so I had a go and made this small oil flask: Good practice at parting off and working out how to hold the damn thing! Shame they no longer make them out of brass! Loctited in an alloy top, but soldered a small piece of brass into the bottom; this scrap had a hole in it which I plugged with steel, should have used brass as it is now really hard to hold the can to clean up the bottom without marking the sides; l can only grip by the narrow end. Made a dribbler spike and cork washer and job done! Fun thing to do and no waste of material! The marks on the narrow neck are from the ejector mechanism. Regards to all and stay safe. Martin |

Hi All, During our enforced clear out we are digging into stuff that we bought years ago and have never got around to fixing, this includes some of these ECLIPSE No:180 instrument vices which are absent the actual small vice section as ringed in the photo. I wonder if anyone might have one that they could take some measurements from for me so that I can make a couple to complete the tools. Just a "back of envelope" sketch with sizes and thread size etc would be really helpful The castings are a real work of art as can be seen but the rest of it should be within my limited capability. I would make the jaws from a low carbon steel and there is a small firm near me who can heat treat and surface grind them for me. BTW if anyone does have one of these do look after it as they are quite a valuable tool, often making £100 or more if boxed! Cheers, Martin |

When using a plunger type DTI on the lathe I use to just clamp it by the lug on the back in a QCT holder of course it was on it's side, not ideal. Today finally got around to making some thing better after spotting a 3D printed one on ebay. I machined it from Alluminum.Works just fine.

Hi Ian, was the one on EBay a red one by any chance? My 3D ones have sold quite well for my first attempt at 3D. Cheers, Martin |

Thread: Myford S7 Saddle Lock Query |
25/04/2020 18:54:02 |
Hi All, I marked the eccentric side opposite the machined step and held in place with long nosed pliers using a mirror while I screwed the bolt in. A bit of fiddling about and then felt it pull up into position. Having a tommy bar hole on each flat made adjustment easy and the saddle lock now works as it should. Plenty of room for the DRO scale to move over the top of the turned down thinner hexagon bolt. Hoefully this will improve my finish on work. Cheers, Martin |
