Okay not today but last weekend, completed ball turning device, first ball the one on the handle, think that is standard

I had the same fault coming up on one of my cars, Dealer wanted over £2k to fix, I did the run at high revs, put additives in, no help.

Got an independent person to come out to the car and plug up the computer to see what the faults was

Turned out a temp sensor, £75 later fixed, he did say he was always hearing of people getting ripped off from dealers with this type of fault.

So get a independent auto electrician to have a look and see what the real fault is

.

just got fed up change blades in holders, so made up some new ones out of alum bar

Hi completed the engine and had it running on air, did a vid but not sure how I can post it yet, will look into it.

Started to make a base, some timber laying around and a price of wet wall, going for the marble effect, so it is now strip the engine, clean up and tidy nuts and bolts, paint and polish.

Think I will arrange for the inlet pipe to bend and go into the base then I can have air pipe hidden, contemplating a control valve .

Hi update on what I have found, did.

Okay after taking the bully off, by removal of nut, this would not be the preload for the bearing as it only effected the bearing fort he running of the pully.

With this housing removed I could see the washer about 40mm down in the housing, hence I was asking if the quill had to be removed, which would cause an issue with the spring.

However this afternoon I mocked up a spanner to hold the spline shaft, managed to get the locking tab on the nut knocked down, then with a punch and a hammer mover the washer round to the next locking tab.

Well there is now no movement in the vertical spindle and it rotates freely, so may not have been very professional but appears to be successful.

When I am using the quill and spindle as a drill I still have some vertical movement, but looking into this it appears to be the quill and spindle which I think will be the backlash on the gearing, I assume this is normal.

Okay just checked my machine, it is WarcoXZ 15 purchased 1997, driven by belt over 4 speed pulls system.

i have removed the pully, and the top set of bearings, glad I have as they are dry and packed with hard crusty material, I assume some sort of rust protection from new, will clean them and put new grease in.

However the question is do I need to take the quill out, as I can’t see any other way to get to the adjustable bearing. If it has to come out I am concerned about the spring, any tips?/

Hi I have been having an issue with this mill WARCO XZ15, thinking its me and lack of knowledge.

I can never get a good finish on material.

I have been looking around the machine fixing the play on beds etc, ensure all is tight, when I go for cut looks okay until the end then cutter rappers to drop and cut extra.

This got me looking at the quill, here I noticed I could move the quill up and down by approx 0.2 of a mm, even with everything locked off. On further investigation I notice the main quill does not move at all it is the central spindle.

Looking through the internet this could be down to pre loaded bearings, what's the thoughts here and how easy are the to get to and fix.

On a brighter note I have been working away on my lathe cleaning, fettling improving the machine and my skills and that is came on leaps and bounds, was hopping to do the same with the mill.

I have managed to get the horizontal steam engine, Dads series, completed and is running , but this did not require the mill, only used it as a glorified drill.

Hi I have just about completed the first tried on air the other day could not get it to work at all, reset the timing nothing tried timing again 180 degrees nothing. Went back to it today working my way through how it should work following the air route.

I have not cut the top of the cylinder to meet up with the port hole, so when you put the cylinder caps on no air could get to the piston. I now remember I did not have a small end mill to cut this I was to order one , guess who forgot, carried on the build.

End mill now on order. Will let you know if and when it runs ( No I should say WHEN it runs)

Next is the horizontal , I do hope the third will be coming out as I am learning a lot. Stew, like to take this time in thanking you for the time and effort you have put into these projects much appreciated

Today I made the inner eccentric for the simple mill engine, found that hard on the eyes. Worked out fine but off putting watching it until the part being machined became round. Not much or too exciting but a first for me

Just had a look at model engineer digital copy is only 38p cheaper than the printed copy, but if you get the mag you can also get the digital 46 p extra , I know this is a promotional thing to encourage you to take both.

But digital 38p per mag cheaper the print, I don’t think all the savings are being passed on to the customer

It is a MAC I use, but like Raymond, the subs leads you to believe all platforms, what about tablets or is it iPad only? The advert should be clear on where these can be read and what will or will not work

Hi last shed I built for the garden (I stay in a very windy area) 50mm square frame, then osb boards, on top of the boards building paper, then 15mm strapping to allow 12mm shiplap, roof 50 with osb board and two layers of felt, floor rai;way sleepers, 75 *50 then 22mm ply. Shed size 8 by 12 feet, cost around £500 and a couple of weekends work

Shed has never moved, leaked or damp inside, three years later

Least if you make it yourself you can get doors , windows size to suit you, one thing I would suggest if you plan to use as workshop, strengthen the floor where you plan to place machines, this is the only bit you can’t get back to

Hi regarding the price of digital, yes I would like it cheaper, but I don’t know the price of server space apps development, so it could be right

Regarding Pocketmags I have had issue in trying to download, and e-mailed about themabout it, each time they have come back to me, last time something must have happened as I have had no issues over the last 2 months, they also extended my subscription as way of recompense.

I much prefer the digital, I can store the easy, any series I want I cut and form a eclotronic copy for future use. I agree Pocketmags are no use for searching but it is a mag distributor, if I need to search I use the main site, where I can get access to all digital copies.

Everything I read now is through iPad , hundreds of books, mag, drawing,sheet music and daily news. iPad just takes up same space.

CTEK, is the way to go have mine on classic car for last ten years, never missed a beat, don’t disconnect battery and has never been an issue wit the ecu. Battery never hot, don’t know all the technical bumf just know it works
