Thread: Non ABS pipe glue recommendation please |

Just don't use a conventional silicone based sealant. I made that mistake |
Thread: be careful out there people! |

Had a few minor "belts" over the years. Nothing too serious and 100% caused by lack of concentration. Only ill effects being muscle strain in the arm closest to the contact. It's certainly not a pleasant experience. |

The answer is to prevent current flowing across the heart, resulting in a cardiac arrest. |

Flash is notoriously insecure, which is why most browsers block it by default. |
Thread: What 3 Words |

There has been a lot of publicity recently, several UK fire services have announced support as well as articles on the BBC website |
15/08/2019 20:55:22 |
In my opinion one of the most innovative uses of technology for a long time. Now widely being adopted by the emergency services. It could literally be a lifesaver. Much simpler than an OS grid reference and less error prone than reading out lat/long. Whether your house is difficult to find, (mine doesn't have a number) or you are working in a remote location being able to have a simple 3 word phrase that will precisely locate you is very valuable. It is already widely used in industries such as forestry. |
Thread: New Milling Machine |
13/08/2019 19:17:22 |
I wouldn't be without a DRO on a mill. It makes working so much easier. Not just switching units, but functions such as decide by two for locating workpiece centres. |
Thread: Grid Frequency [mains electricity] |
13/08/2019 19:12:30 |
There was a person being interviewed on R4 PM today, who was indicating that one of the weaknesses in the grid was down to "lack of inertia". Older larger generating stations, take time to wind down. Newer sources trip out very fast, with a big impact on the frequency and the grid is not geared up to absorb this. |

Tracy Tools do a good range of screwed shank cutters.

Thread: Black Oxide coating |
12/08/2019 07:33:49 |
The classic industrial blacking process is phosphating, which uses phosphoric acid to create the black surface, which is then sealed with oil. This maybe what the OP is referring to. |

RS have always been a premium supplier, mainly due to pretty much guaranteed availability for next day delivery. Over 30 years ago I worked in an Electronic repair shop, While we kept a good stock of basics, we knew we could rely on RS for next day delivery to complete a job in the vast majority of situations

Thread: Shot peening for metal improvement |
05/08/2019 12:57:16 |
I know that they were doing this at Brooklands in the early '80s. Tornado taileron skill panels IIRC. I have checked my apprentice log book and have no notes on the subject, either on process or inspection/testing |
Thread: Upgrading to fibre optic broadband |
31/07/2019 09:04:57 |
Mostly "Fibre" Broadband is the biggest marketing con in the telecoms industry. Contrast this to true FTTP, Fibre to the Premises, which actually does run a high speed, highly reliable optical cable right to your router. This will typically run at Gigabit (1000Megabit) line speed and is symmetrical (same upload speed as download. The big question is what is your usage profile. If you are a single user with occasional browsing, etc, the ADSL will be fine. However if you have a family with several teenagers, online gaming, watching movies, etc, then the extra bandwidth is of massive benefit.

I would recommend speaking to Inverter Drive Supermarket. When I did my 3phase conversion on my lathe, they were incredibly patient in specifying a solution and answering my novice questions, all for a single one off order.

+1 on the EMC filter. I fitted one when I did my lathe conversion and have never had any issues. |
Thread: Anyone recognise this mains connector ? |

Further info, there is an image here, confirming it is a ceramic connector. You also need an external temperature controller |

looks like the Efco 110 is still a current model. The design may have changed, but you may be able to get some assistance from the manufacturer |
