Hi Guys - The list is what the OP already has! He wants to add to it.

If your kids could maybe get you a second hand copy of Machinery Handbook, not the very cheapest of things but second hand older (the best copies in my opinion) copies come up at great prices from time to time. It is a good book, in my opinion, to browse chunks of once in a while.

Otherwise, I would also recommend the Tool and cutter sharpening book as sharpening tools is something you will always need to do.

Put forty odd rounds through my .270 and it cheered me up no end after the thumb fiasco of this week.
Downside of course is my shoulder will probably be black and blue tomorrow as it is a pretty brutal round.

The only one consistent spelling mistake which I really find irritating and it really only appears on American forums is "brought" instead of bought. But life is too short.

Late last year here we had the 'Pound Shop Wars' where we woke up one day to find we had 75p stores then within a week we had the 50p store and allegedly the pound shop owner at the top of the street who had stuck at 99p sent his friends and family to buy up the stock from the 50p store.

A while back I was given a box of Tungsten Carbide tooltips (inserts) by a friend. Had no idea which toolholder - clearly CNC machinery - so I made a toolholder and they looked like fine thread cutting tips. Used it today to cut some fine threads and cut them in one pass. Worked beautifully (26mm x 1.0 ) and fit perfectly. Well pleased, the finish was superb, they can't have been cheap. You can use all four corners of each insert and I have a full box of ten so I calculate I will need to restock when I reach 163 years old. So a ways to go yet.

Mine are in bits at the moment. Bought the full refurbishment kit from the chap in Australia about twelve months ago. Really must make the effort this summer. The thing that has slowed me down is you need quite a large room to work around the panels but - inspired by another thread on a forum far away, I am on the lookout for a Gazeebo thing with all four walls to make a pop up spray booth in the garden.

Wonder what she will say to that. I'll let you all know when it happens

Well, yesterday actually, I swapped my venerable Quad 303 power amplifier out for my Quad 405's that I monoblocked about ten years ago. The Quad 303 was needing a a rebuild before I started using it in the Office/Workshop. It definitely needs it now! Why monoblock a pair of perfectly good Stereo amplifiers? Because I could:

However, for reasons I could never fathom (out of my depth) one of them would always give trouble and go dead. I struggled and fixed it the first time. The last time I knew I needed someone who actually knew what he was doing because I couldn't find the original schematic I had used to monoblock them I found it yesterday as it happens - looking for something completely unrelated!

Enter Les to the rescue and I can tell you right now, the effort has been well worth it. I rearranged everything yesterday afternoon and they have made a massive improvement. All I need now is my new USB interface cable to arrive (too much background from the laptop power supply) and I can start playing my archive at ten zillion watts!

This is the rear of the amplifiers and I get the hint Les (He has made little tin covers so I can't fiddle with the balance pots on the back - made me smile anyway)

I remember the very first Winchester 2 Megabyte hard drive's arrival, the answer to all my prayers. And my employers too I think as the development was so fast I was out of a job within twelve months and the hard drive was in the scrap heap. Solid State had arrived with a bang.

Last year marked twenty years I have been hosting my own webserver, I remember negotiating for my first 2Mb of webspace and whether or not that included the email. Now I host in a Cloud Instance and replicate across multiple instances hiding behind Cloudflare mostly. How things have changed and thanks to those folk with incredible vision or great luck. Or a combination of both.

I actually have that £75 Veritas rest shown in Martins link above. Fortunately somebody gave it to me because if I had paid that sort of money for such a small and flimsy collection of aluminium parts not only would I have wanted my money back, I would want compensation for having wasted my time!
