Glad you got a good result in the end. My old man used to hammer into us "Check the simple stuff first" when we were ready to strip a motorbike engine down to the crankpin because a loose tappet was rattling. He was right too, as usual!

You might put a dab of white paint or similar on that pulley, and the countershaft pulley, for future reference so you can see at a glance in the gloom if it is turning or not.

"Check the simple stuff first" too right I once had an electrician work for me 'briefly' he told me the hoist motor on a crane needed to be change, so I decided to go check it out myself which I did a found tow of the three motor fuses blown due to a damaged catenary cable nothing wrong with the motor thankfully !

When I served in the Air Force was posted to a desert air strip in the Middle East during the 60's and when working outside on aircraft, sometimes in near 50 degree heat, all we wore were desert boots and kd shorts, which ended up black with grease and oil. To clean the shorts we used to wash them in a bucket of aviation gasoline and then hang them up to dry, they always came up clean, hate to think what the health and safety implications would be nowadays, I know that nowadays my long suffering wife launders my working clothes from the workshop with soap powder and a liberal dose of Vanish, works for her and she is very fussy about results from the washing machine.

Many years back the last job on a Saturday morning was to 'test' the vapour degreaser this was 'tested' by hanging one's overalls in the degreaser once clean left hanging in the maintenance ready for Monday morning !

Thread: injector problems still
14/02/2017 14:53:30

Hi Ron

Not an expert on injectors sorry and I think most common cause's have been covered e.g. bad joint allowing air in, pipework to small for size of injector etc, I had problems with the injector on my 3" Burrell when I purchased it and was told it was a new injector anyway I sent it off to a guy on Traction Talk Terry Baxter aka 'injector man' Terry had his own company until he sold it making injectors was on of the services he offered any I sent mine of to Terry he said it needed a service although new poorly finished cones not very good I told him to sort he did and I've never looked back maybe it's worth you joining TT and getting in touch with Terry.

... Ketan I'm surprised to see Safari so high on your list as an Apple user I can't stand it !

.

Harry,

I don't want to labour it; but may I ask what you find so objectionable about Safari ?

... Perhaps I've 'got used to it' but it seems innocuous enough.

MichaelG.

Michael to be fair I can't really put my finger on it, maybe unlike you I haven't gotten use to it, I only use it on my phone but maybe if it was on my laptop I might think differently.

I briefly tried Mozilla but didn't use it that much to form an opinion, so until I make my mind up I'm using Edge so suggestions welcome please.

Always do it, taught to do it, and it does make a difference. Same thing for the S/C 3-jaw chuck.

Me too and still do it, it's become a habit !

The table that I usually use for looking up odd threads has a "GAS(brass pipe) thread" form as well as BSP, though looking at it the tpi is about the same as NPT

Edited By JasonB on 11/01/2017 12:25:41

Good table Jason, I have a copy encapsulated in the workshop wouldn't be without it.

Thread: Use of brass in Boilers

Thanks for your post Julian.

Some suggest that you can use brass but you need to replace the fitting regularly, but as Jason said if the bouler is to be tested by a boiler inspector seek his guidance.
