Neil, is this not made more difficult for you in that having become a member, it is very difficult to unsubscribe - so you finish up with loads of "odd" people who are unhelpful but they are trapped in.You could make it easier for them to go?

Why do they need to 'go' if they are inactive? they may return. There's a forum I use, but only rarely when I need help with microprocessor issues. Neil

I never mentioned being inactive - I do similar to you on other blogs and not an issue.

There is no advantage in disruptive returning. I find it advantageous to give disruptive people an easy opportunity to leave, and usually they do.

It's a little known fact these days but Maggie put the kibosh on BT when they planned to implement the "high speed digital highway", back in 1990. She was worried about damaging the BBC. So much for the free market.Move forward to today and we are spending taxpayers' money telling ourselves to get super high speed broadband. And her modern day descendants have it in for the BBC.Difficult to imagine how things would have panned out if we'd had fast internet back in the 90s....

It might be me, but I can't see what this has to do with the BBC.

My personal moan. Our cabinet has about 25 houses and three sizeable businesses attached to it. They won't upgrade it as it is ~2 miles from the exchange.

Interestingly, a great deal of effort has been spent on connecting the cabinet (and other services) to a massive business park development going up on the other side of the busy dual carriageway.

I did email the developers pointing out that their multi-million development may struggle to attract top end businesses without a decent internet connection...

Curiously, they did not reply to my email. Neil

What did you expect them to say Neil - "Thanks very much, we hadn't realised that - we'll sell up and go somewhere else"

What I may do is buy one and fit it to see how it goes, all the houses in the road have the same fittings and owners are not happy with the original fittings so there is a chance of me getting a job out of it! Next door fitted some longer Florescents but they do not last long and they are forever looking to get new ones. Clive

Tongue-in-cheek comment - I am moving in next door and looking forward to some help with my DIY from a local innovative beekeeper with spare time.

Posted by Neil Wyatt on 05/07/2016 20:30:56:Might be worth looking up LBSC's description of makling his 'disc in tube' regulator? Neil.

Good old LBSC was a great user of good old pumice powder, then available in different grades.

Unlikely you will find it in the local Wilko methinks.

Edit - loads of it on eBay - but probably stick to what Julian says?

Mmm!! I would think long and hard before I poisoned a Mac with microsoft in any way.

Those who have escaped and climbed over "Win's Dyke" rarely wish think they should climb back over it.

Geoff - My days of MS grief ended in 2007/8, hip hip ^*% hooray!

Wish I'd seen this two days ago. I am one of the latest victims.

Last time I did it voluntarily and had to go back because I have some expensive video software which was iffy on 10. Unfortunately last time I reverted back and landed in the blue screen of death and a bill for £60 and a fortnight to fix.
Looking for a suitable juncture to dump microsoft altogether like OuBallie.

The intelligence is built into a modern camera so that lot's of users think that is transfered to them.

This will render them invincible to any threat or danger.

You can educate ignorance but you can not fix stupid. Eric

The elf n safety mindset gives the feeling someone will have prevented them from harming themselves. You could argue that is what is happening by withdrawing information.

Looking carefully at the video I suspect that he was no closer to the train than the people on the platform edge.

Agree, but I think they shouldn't be on the platform edge either.

The abuse station staff get whilst trying to keep people back is saddening.

It is of no consequence really - a bit like rivet counting, but if you search on the net you have to do it twice, once for each spelling. Still, it pales into insignificance compared to the effort in making one!

This is what I use for Serious Suckin as Steve Wright might say on Fridays at 4.15. It was not the cheapest and bought before the EU started to dictate the max power of vacs, but certainly clears up the crap.

The adaptor on the top is used to remove the ash from the grate of my loco after running. I'm never going to take a grate out again - except to replace it of course.

Anthony, if you wish to modulate an Amplitude Modulation signal to 100%, you need similar audio power to RF power. The BBC only modulates to about 30%, I believe. Geoff

I am indebted to you for this new information. The only thing I can add, politely, is both statements are incorrect.

Anyway, we are getting off-topic.

04/12/2015 17:11:14

Muzzer, what you see is half of the class B (push-pull) modulator stage of a 250kW hf transmitter. If memory serves me right, in order to modulate a 250kW a.m. transmitter to 100% modulation you need 125kW of audio.

The 250 kW rf stage has two identical valves but in class C, also with vapor cooling.

By vapor cooling I mean water is boiled in the boiler the valve sits in and there is a small amount of waterflow to top it up which goes over a weir and flows down the pyrex tubes. The steam goes outside to be condensed and back in the tank. Hope I have this right from school but the latent heat of vaporisation of pure water is 539cal per gram, so by letting the water boil at 100 deg C, you can transfer the heat with 1/539 of the waterflow that would be required for water cooling at 99 deg C.

Incidentally, the valve sits on a viton O ring to seal it which is about 8in diameter and 1/4 in cross-section - just like a big version of what we might use on our locos.

04/12/2015 13:45:04

Muzzer, the valve above is an EEV valve, built at Chelmsford. It produces 125kW of audio.

04/12/2015 09:33:36

Time to look at a real valve methinks - one with vapour cooling....

Yes, you are correct - it was late and I missed out pi. Perhaps it would be better if I missed out on a few more pies!!

hi duncan, As previously stated i wouldnt bother with an axle pump anyway and would fit a second injector.

cheers, julian

Very much agree.
