Thread: Parting off using a replaceable blade parting tool. |
13/06/2013 20:14:34 |
I have a parting off tool with a replaceable blade (similar idea to a snap-off knife!). It seems to cut off the part a bit con-cave rather than straight, is there a way around this? It's quite a big one, 30mm high x 15mm wide at a guess.
I normally use the carbide parting off tools but they've all broken because I get lazy and use the power cross-feed to part off! Any ideas?

Thread: I have a weight problem. |

I stripped the paint off a lightweight mounting bike frame once. The weight difference before and after was 16 grams! Edited By Chris Pocock on 03/06/2013 23:40:12 |

Thansk for the replies, I'm not getting email notifications for some reason?! These are pictures of where the insert fits. Michael: Where did you see the inserts for £5 I can't find them on that website. Ian: Yes, I was planning on using just the end ones as a face mill.

I bought this as I had assumed it was a vertcial mill facing tool, it's just arrived and takes inserts up the sides as well? So I'm not really sure what it's for. Also, I think it'll still be ok to use as a facing tool, so where is the best place to search for an insert to fit it?
Thanks.

Thread: Grease gun for oil. |
16/05/2013 19:49:44 |
I tried it in a few nipples. The oil only comes out after you remove the pump from the nipple, it obviously won't go through the nipple ut there is a build up of pressure before the nipple. I tried a grease gun I found on one last night and it was fine so I've ordered another grease gun of the same design.
Thanks. |
Thread: Are these old measuring item worth anything? |
15/05/2013 17:32:31 |
Thanks for the replies. When I say I was 'given them' it was when I spent several thousands on buying machinery from the person! I already have metric equivalents, and therefore don't need them. I'll probably put them on eBay as a group and not expect much for them!
Thanks, Chris |
Thread: Grease gun for oil. |

Thanks for that. PIT tried it again last night and got it working, I need to fill the inner cylinder as well. It doesn't seem to be able to get oil though the nipple though. I put a nipple in a vice and used the grease gun but it didn't go through the nipple, I bought a new nipple to try today and still the oil doesn't get through to the inside of the nipple. Although when you remove the grease gun from the nipple there is pressure there. Do I just need a more powerful oil gun? Edited By Chris Pocock on 15/05/2013 17:39:39 |

I've never used one of these before. I unscrew the cap at the end then pull out the rubber bung which is attached the the mechanism, then pour oil inside. The oil goes inbetween the outside casing and the internal cylinder. Do I need to fill the cylinder where the piston is to prime it or something? |

Thanks for the reply.
It is this sort of nipple:

I bought one of these for oiling the nipples on my machines. I can't get it to work! Can anyone confirm that they are suitable for use with oil rather than grease?!
Thanks.

Hi, it is the gearbox oil. I have attached the pictures from both versions of the manual.

Thread: Aldi Calipers... |

I have used some black calipers from Aldi 'on-machine' for a few years, they've been dropped hundreds of times, been covered in oil, had smashed screen and they are only 0.02mm out. The blue ones I've seen in Aldi recently were terrible though. |

Something I had advertised on here has now sold (via eBay) and I'd like to remove the advert (or mark it as sold), but I don't know how to!

Thread: Engler Viscosity. |

Many thanks for the information. I actually found a member on here who has a more modern version of the manual for the Aciera F3 mill it is for and this says ISO 150, so as you both said. My next question is I have to buy 20 liters of Castrol Hyspin 100 for my lathe, this is ISO 100 , would this be ok to use in the mill instead of ISO 150?
Thanks. |

Evening, I have a milling machine that requires oil of 12-15 degrees Engler at 50C. Does anyone know how to convert this into a more common viscosity.
Thanks, Chris |
