I've actually got an apology out of Hermes but no parcel! They say they are sending it back to the sender which is only fair because he refunded me. However I haven't got any explanation as to what actually happened that prevented it being delivered.

My latest disaster story about Hermes. I got sent some wheel castings from a seller on Ebay. Tracked, got as far as 'out for delivery'. Next message was 'returned to depot due to damage'. Then nothing for a few days. Then ' can't be delivered due to damage'. Then it's apparently disappeared into Hyperspace. Maybe it just vanished. I can't see how anything can be so damaged that it CANNOT be delivered. I've got my money back from the seller but there is no way to find out from Hermes what actually happened. Plus it's not replaceable.

Yes Dave, it's not very easy is it? I don't want to get someone into trouble carrying something that is classed as dangerous goods even if it's just a tin of paint. The odd thing is that you can order all sorts of similar things on Amazon and sometimes you just get them delivered no problem, other times it comes up with a message that it can't be delivered to this address.

Hi, I need some paint for my Jeannie Deans which is getting to that stage. Snag is that Phoenix can't send to Northern Ireland so i need an alternative colour. Any ideas? There are two of us here making LNWR engines so we are both a bit stuck.

I hadn't thought of gilders metal. Is that an alloy of copper?

That;s interesting Lee, I've someone use a sandwich of wood and bashed the dome shape into thin steel with a mallet.

Nigel, I haven't got the first of those articles. Would it be possible please to send me a copy of the article or if not could you see if there are specific instructions in it as to how to mix the electrolyte?

Hi, I've thought of spinning it from a piece of 3 inch copper tube which i happen to have but I don't know how to spin something inwards. I've managed to spin a dome from a sheet but not this size. LBSC says bash it out from sheet but I've always suspected that he over simplified how to do things!

Hi, I want to build a model of an old French 2-4-0, one of it's features is a very large dome nearly the diameter of the boiler. I have been wondering how to make this and remember reading some articles in ME a few years back on making an early aero engine and the writer electroformed the cylinder water jackets. The problem is I can't find it. Can somenone please tell me where the articles are? I've looked in the index but no results. Thanks!

Hi, I was looking for a free easy to use CAD 2D tool to do some drawings for laser cutting out locomotive frames. I came across Draft It which looks very easy to use and doesn't need monthly payments. The basic version is free and the Pro version costs £24 one off payment. It looks very basic but easy to use. Has anyone used it and can comment please?

Hi, I am trying to research the French 2-4-0 locos which were used very commonly on the Nord and other lines. There is one in the Cite du Train called Parthenay and there is a photo of this online. Has anyone ever managed to get information or drawings out of Cite du Train? I tried when i was building my Crampton and got nowhere. Has anyone any photos of this loco? I quite fancy building one since it would fit my tender for my Crampton so I would only have to build the loco. A drawing would be nice, there is one at Camden books but it's an art print and I really only want a general drawing to get the main dimensions.

I usually use vinegar to clean the black oxide from steel when I have silver soldered parts. The other day I forgot about a small part and left it in the vinegar for 3 days. I found that the steel was eaten away just like in the pictures, in fact I had to make another it was so bad. So the same thing happens with acetic acid.

By the way Luker, how do you cut your threads right up to the hex? That's another pet peeve of mine, drawings with threads right up to the hex and no mention of how to achieve it.
