Mark, Somewhat lax in checking posts of late, sorry. Yes, they are the spare knurls bolted to the arm, it being the most convenient place I could thing of to put them. Geoff - Dusting time 😤 |

I use aluminium modelling tube as shear pins, following my 'episode' of Saddle meets Headstock whilst under power. So far so good as none have sheared. Geoff - Fingers, toes et al crossed as I do not want to go through that again. |

I had never realised that cast iron would come out of the mound looking like this ...die cast yes but not cast iron...I cant imagine what causes the colour Ian, With the correct moulding 'sand' just about any but the finest detail will come out, provided the CI is up to scratch. Geoff - What a wasted year I've had 😪 |
Thread: Parallel Machine Files |
29/11/2018 11:20:34 |
Smike Harold Hall has details of converting normal files to work on filing machines. Geoff - Slowly recovering from my '111' ordeal early this year, and resulting 6 visits to hospital. Edited By OuBallie on 29/11/2018 11:21:54 Edited By OuBallie on 29/11/2018 11:22:35 |
Thread: Electrolux vacuum - Need to make a missing wheel |
05/11/2018 10:41:18 |
Jeff/Martin, FMES: Checked that site twice now, and all others I could find but nothing for this model machine. No dimensions shown anywhere that I could find, so wasn't going to go through the hassle of buying, only to return ad nausium. Only took a few hours to make, governed by the amount of metal the lathe would remove. Geoff - Most satisfying as was fixing the Dyson. |
04/11/2018 11:02:39 |
It's done. More photos in the 'Vacuum machines' Album. Dyson: The brush crumbled as I withdrew it.
Works a treat Geoff - i've achieved something lately at last |

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've searches the two sites mentioned, but nothing for the 900252111 model this one is. Will have to have a think on which of the methods suggested I will use. Geoff - Updates as and when as usual. PS. fixed the £5 Dyson Telescope she bought as 'Not working' at a car boot sale, it taking longer to figure out how to get the motor out than actual fixing, and that entailed a new brush and soldering its lead to the spring holder. Geoff - It's the satisfaction of bring things back to life instead of binning them. |

More advise please, this time on making a replacement wheel that other half somehow 'mislaid' whilst using the vacuum. I could of course make a mould and use epoxy or similar to make one but wonder what the alternative solutions would be. The easiest no doubt from wood, the various pieces glued up and then a nut and bolt to secure a large washer on the inside in place of the moulded in 'clip' of the originals. Geoff |
Thread: Difficult 3/4" jack ram guide |
23/10/2018 14:46:04 |
Update. Had to use two 'O' rings to stop the leakage, as one didn't. The guide screwed right down squishing the rings against the ram. Will only find out once I use the jack in anger and real pressure applied. Geoff - Have asked for suggestions in making a vacuum wheel.

Another thank you for responses. Well, it came loose after applying heat then having a go using a chisel, but without it budging. Placed a lump of steel on top of it and gave it a wallop with the persuader, then another go with socket and using the persuader once again and bingo it came loose. The 'O' ring is 5/8" Ø that I do not have, mine being metric, so ordered one. I did try various metric ones but they did not seal of course. Geoff - I thought I had used portrait mode! Thanks for the quick suggestions, something I treasure about this forum Indeed Murray, can't complain as I've been using it since the mid 60s, and it did stirling work when preparing and racing my 105E and now working on the '35 Seven. Jeff, will see what metal I can use, maybe a bit of hex, if the chisel fails. Will apply heat in the morning, but no naked flame, just a powerful heat gun and see if that loosens things up. Geoff - Feels good to be active again at last.

Time to replace the ram 'O' ring as it's become incontinent. The ram guide wont budge using normal ratchet and 3/4" socket. The flats are only 1/8" thick so am very reluctant to go at it like a bull in a china shop. Have applied both freeze spray and penetrant but need advise please on best way to I loosen it. Rattle gun I have but reluctant to use too soon. Geoff - Nearly back to normal at last.

It's a cost cutting exercise that Amazon did some time ago. They rationalised on the number of different sized boxes that keep in stock, but this really takes the proverbial. A few sizes of padded envelopes wouldn't take up much space. Geoff - At least those boxes are handy. |
