Hello John - nice to see another neighbour on the forum. I needed an 80 tooth gear for my newly acquired lathe about a year ago but as gear making is not something I yearn to learn I bought a ready made job and customized it to suit. It was something between £30 - £36 but I have mislaid the delivery note and cannot remember the name of the company who supplied it.

I went to the DERA auction at Thurleigh when things came to an end. I remember parking the car on the scorching hot concrete apron and being amazed at the width of the never ending runway disappearing over the horizon.

I also recall dad teaching mum to drive at the Tempsford airfield before all the concrete was dug up. As you know we had more than our fair share of WW2 air bases in this small area the history of which makes for interesting reading as in for instance "The Bedford Triangle".

There must be lots of reasons. My main reason for doing it apart from wanting to buy it is to find out the potential value of my gear . lts also a good way of bookmarking similar BIN items when looking for a good price.- shopping around as it were.

I have not used my breadboard in thirty years since I made my first metal detector. I used to strip the thin multi coloured wires from telephone cable and solder a Veropin on each end - very handy those colours when identifying what goes where!

I used to own an early digital SLR camera and the rubber hand grip became sticky. I tried all sorts without success until finally the problem went away. (Thank you Ebay)

I have drawn a blank on that size - perhaps it is a special. These people will make specials in 24 hours but I suspect the price will make your eyes water.

I built one of these forty years ago from a set of castings that were advertised as for a "sensitive drill". The foundry was somewhere in Lincolnshire.

The thing about ER collets in particular is their versatility. Yes they are very handy for holding milling cutters both imperial and metric but they are also indispensable for holding finished machined surfaces on materials like PB, gunmetal, brass etc. without leaving marks.

In my case I originally bought ER25 but since then I have upsized my lathe. So in order take advantage of its larger capacity I had to choose between ER40 and 5C. I decided on 5C simply because a cheap job lot of new collets became available. I still use the ER25's on my WM16 mill and very accurate they are - am I allowed to say they came from RDG?

I also got the message. I've deleted with win 10 uninstaller but ioUninstaller reported lots of rubbish left behind and it very kindly deleted it all for me. Glad I did not invest to much time in THAT one.

I cut WARCO supplied DRO scales with an abrasive disk in an angle grinder on a stand after finding that my best hacksaw blades would not look at them. I have been using IKEA 2032 lithium cells for the xy readout and they go flat in no time. 4 sets of two in 12 months

Quite understand what you are saying Jason and I understand that not all crankshafts are equal. However, and as you point out, the DT design does allow for solid journals. My only other engine also had journals from solid. Maybe I'll try another model in the future with the split variety but until then it will remain a "pleasure" to come.

For historical accuracy split brasses are a nice touch but I will make mine differently. I shortly need to make 4x PB journals for the crankshaft on my current Double Tangye in progress. They will be made from solid bar, no splits, no soldering! The feed spigot on the oil cups will stop them rotating.

The only splits found on this model are between the CI standards and journal caps. The completed journals will be slid onto the crankshaft then the standard caps will be fitted holding the crankshaft in position.

Dave - I usually buy a box or two when either Aldi or Lidl have them in. I have not seen any lately though. To be sure, they are not as good as something like Unbrako but they are quite acceptable for much of what I do in the workshop. I would not use them though on safety critical fittings - on a motor bike for instance.

Since the expo at Sandown ground to a halt some years ago (my wife loved going there) we have just stuck with the Midlands show at the Fosse Way simply because its not so far from us in North Bucks.

However, this year I have bought tickets for the Doncaster ME "do" and we'll stop a few days and explore the Peak District as well.

So, for those who have been to both events in the past how do the two compare?

I bought a WARCO 6" couple of years ago. Does that make it a SOBA or VERTEX?
