Thread: china/India - Cop 26
15/11/2021 10:33:43

Given that China and India have decided not to sign up to any binding agreement to reduce the use of fossil fuel, perhaps we should seriously consider looking at alternative sources for lathes, mills, chucks, and many other products which have their origin in these two countries. There are european sources, I know, our pockets will be hit, but given that there are islands which are going to disappear of the face of the earth, and many coastal regions are already being affected by rising sea level, paying more is perhaps a price worth paying. Thread: NVR Switch
08/11/2021 11:47:59

Hi, Bee.M There is a Poundland in Witney, so next time I am in the town, I will pay them a visit and see if I can find the air duster. Thanks for the offer Duncan. I have marked the wires with their location numbers, and have pictures so I don't feel I need the wiring diagram. It's definitely an NVR switch Les. It does all the things you list and does'nt run when power is restored. I suspect that you are correct Nick, and this is a customized unit for Myford. Clive, the pt. no. CA10X A401 ties it down to being part of the CA range, not CG. I think the X denotes latching, and A401 implies a 3 pole motor reversing switch. Building one up from scratch is a bit to challeging for me, but I have e mailed a company up north who stock Kraus, to see if they can help. Thanks though Clive for you input, and going to such lengths to help, and everyone who have posted comment Regards Lynne

There is a Pt.No. on the switch, but I think it is going to be difficult to source a replacement, since the UK arm of Kraus & Naimer are not aware of a stockist. I would be reluctant to buy 2nd hand, not knowing how much use it had been subjected to. I would certainly give it a blast if I had compressed air. There are no contacts exposed so meth and a brush are out. Thanks again. Regards Lynne

good morning, Thanks for all your responses. I have opened the unit,& as the switch/coil is an intergrated assy, I am not inclined to dismantle further. I will live with it as it is. I did contact Kraus & Naimer uk, & they say they are not aware of a stockist, as it is a power failure release switch which are direct from the factory, & which to me sounds expensive.

BeeM. May be you have'nt picked up on my post @ 12:27:23.

I have put some pictures of the switch into the album. Regards Lynne

Thanks for the responses. Let me try to clarify things. The switch is an integrated unit, made by Kraus & Naimer,

and was a factory fit by Myfords, when Myfords was Myfords,so I guess that means its getting on in years, a bit like me. It is operating on mains AC, and has operated fine for years, and it is only recently that it has started not to latch when selecting reverse. This is an intermittent fault, as this morning it held ok. The selector is mounted on the top of the unit, not shrouded. I will take some pictures, but it may be a while before I get them up here,

Regards Lynne

Good evening, The lathe forward/reverse NVR switch latches when forward is

selected, but not in reverse. What is the likely reason for this, and can it be

fixed' Thanks, Lynne

I have received a private message from a Jack Marvin making me aware of the golf facilities at Arabella Golf Club. He has no forum posts, photo's or articles, so how has he been able to do this? Poor choice really, as I have never swung a golf club in my life Lynne

Thank's for all your responses. I will not be going down the the length of string and a 'tug' route, and the internet extension, cell phone, and powerline adaptors etc, I would struggle with. I have 'stable door ' access to my shed, lower half can be bolted inside, and the top half kept closed by a strong ball catch, so I am not 'locked in', but my wife suffers severe athritis in the hands and pulling on the door is something she avoids. I do not see using a bell push is demeaning, its used to summon someone to the front door, and in many establishments to obtain counter service. I like Rod's solution, and that is what I will be getting, and when tea and cake is being served, all my wife has to do is push the button and I will come running. Thanks again, regards, Lynne.

My wife got quite cross last evening, when I did,nt hear her shouting/hammering on my workshop/shed door. I was tool grinding at the time. I am now looking at wireless door bell systems. Those not requiring batteries are attractive, but are they durable in the long term?. What I would really like is a system which has both sound and flashing light. Does anyone know if there is anything out there. along these lines? Any help appreciated. Lynne

I've been looking on line for a chart which gives data to enable one to cut an imperial thread using wires to check pitch dia. Whether it could be downloaded would be another question. There are charts for Amercan and metric, but I have failed to find any for imperial. There are plenty giving general thread data, but not one for wires. Any chance someone can help me on this one?

Thank you all for your posts. Regards, Lynne

I have a relatively new (3 years) Mitutoyo caliper model CD 6" Atx Digimatic.

I realized after 2 years of use that it does'nt switch off if not used for a while.

M Dro told me that it does'nt , and many users prefer it that way.

Checking on line Mitutoyo make no statement on this point., other than

to suggest that three and a half years battery life with normal use.

Can anyone confirm that what I was told, is correct.

Thanks, Lynne

Thread: Inverter Tripping RCD
09/04/2020 00:51:09

An interesting discussion. Having read the F_____ manual, it tells me that all vfd's have a leakage current to earth, the levels of which are affected by motor cable length and type, effective switching frequency, earth connection used, and type of RFI filter installed. If an ELCB is used, it must be fitted with a type B device, The vfd I have has an external screw which can be 'removed' if tripping is an issue. Now logic suggests to me, that no mfg. would tell one to do this if transient spikes from whatever source are going to destroy the vfd. There has to be some form of protection built into the drive. But hey ho, I am no electronics buffa. Regards, Lynne

Thanks for all the responses, they make interesting reading. I did not appreciate the function of the star wheel, just did not find it easy to use , so I replaced it. Now I know, wish I had kept it. Lynne
