Thread: How are your clubs responding to Coronavirus
16/05/2020 07:13:20

I have heard nothing from from my local ME club since lock down, not much from the BMFA. The good news is my local fishing club has opened its lakes and the field archery club has opened its wood.

Guess what I am going to be doing it will make a change from the workshop.

Thread: Arc Euro Trade - Quality?
14/05/2020 07:42:13

Before I retired I ran a UKAS accredited test laboratory amongst other things we bought 2 digital callipers from Arc a 1000mm and 600mm at the price I thought it was worth a try. When we received them they went of for calibration at a UKAS accredited calibration laboratory both came back with calibration certificates confirming they met the required standard for that type of measuring equipment.

Thread: Sort of a Straw Poll
12/05/2020 21:25:56

I will be 67 this year my 5th year of retirement, I buy what I want for my workshop and my sport of tethered car racing. Luckily my son has set him self up with a workshop now he’s moved out and also races tether cars and has a couple of fast old cars.
I am lucky he told my wife when I pop my clogs he is going have my workshop so she has no worries about getting rid of it.

Thread: What are you doing
04/05/2020 07:31:11

Over the lock down I have built a Russian tether car kit from the 70s/80s it comes with a die cast chassis and the rest of the material to build it requires a lathe at least to build. The kits must have been produced in big numbers. They are still available on eBay.

The then eastern bloc had youth houses to encourage the youngsters to take up a hobby the one in Estonia still exists and has a nice workshop for the youngsters to use. They are fighting to save it at the moment they want to knock it down and build houses.

Thread: Things bought from ebay

Used to get anything I wanted from Cromwell Tools through work it was a big saving. Now I am retired that route is no longer available.

That parcel of tooling was a good buy.

Thread: ANZACS - We will remember them!!
25/04/2020 07:59:51

I remember the ANZAC clubs in the Pacific Islands above Australia from my Merchant Navy days. It was from the days of tramp ships voyages of between 7 to 10 months were the norm it was a good life for a single bloke. We use to pick up copra from round the islands the ship was then full of black copra bugs.

Have you thought about click and collect yet for the locals?

Thread: Arceurotrade milling cutter sharpening machine
13/04/2020 15:01:56

Thanks for all the comments, it has confirmed what I thought that a tool and cutter grinder is not the easiest of machines to use. And I don’t want to spend my time learning and ruining cutters.
I have ordered one today.

Thread: Grinding rubber
12/04/2020 19:17:23

I used to grind rubber to earn a living the wheels were very course and very soft, but I am going back 40 plus years.

Recently I needed to grind some silicone rubber tube to make exhaust seals for one of my tuned pipe racing engines the only emery paper that would work was 40 grit.

Thread: Arceurotrade milling cutter sharpening machine
12/04/2020 07:15:00

I have a lifetimes collection of blunt ends mills and slot drills. Being stuck at home and not spending much money, I thought I might treat myself to an Arceurotrade milling cutter sharpening machine.

Anyone have any experience of using one.

I do have a Chinese cutter grinder but it just doesn’t get used I have not been very successful at sharpening cutters on it.

Thread: How do I drill this hole
05/04/2020 14:53:07

Les Jones, It will be a working model and yes the driven wheels are on a fixed axle, it’s a tether car and runs in a circle about 60 feet diameter. The lack of a differential does not appear to cause a problem it been done this way for around 70 years and speeds are now in excess of 200mph.

The ends cannot be skimmed up on the side you cannot see there is a bracket for part of the suspension also I don’t have a steady for the lathe. So a non starter.

Its going in the mill

04/04/2020 15:26:27

It’s a long way down from the centre of the axle to my cross slide and there is not muck to fix it to. I will make a fixture and do it on the mill.
