Try Rotagrip I have bought lathe chucks from them at the better end of the market and found them to be very good. They are also knowledgable and helpful. No connection just a satisfied customer http://www.rotagriponline.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=239&Itemid=29

Thread: Which collet chuck for a Warco GH1236 lathe |
02/11/2017 15:50:51 |
I have both, the collet chuck of choice for me is the 5C l like being able to tighten and loosen with a chuck key I also like the ability of the 5c collet to hold short lengths of material. It can be done with ER collets but it's a faf. |

Thread: A WINTER'S CHALLENGE. |

These are two tether cars that I built their is about 50 years of development between the two the modern car will run at about double the speed of the old one.

Just to put a bit of balance to what I am saying, currently building a Stuart Turner Sun engine it's making a very pleasant change from making new pistons for my tether car engines. |

Jason they are nice model engines but hardly new. Tuned pipes were fitted to high performance engines in the1970s ringed pistons also disappeared before that. Model engineers used to be at the leading edge of model engine design and development for example Edgar Westbury but no one has really taken up the mantle for high performance engines. The only modern racing engine is the 0.9 cu in /15cc built by the American model boat racer.

Jason I have read what Dave wrote a little differently he said new designs I took that to mean modern. As nice as the old engines are model engineering seems to be stuck in a rut it's the same old year in year out. We could perhaps do with a breath of fresh air in model design a new challenge. |

Sounds like there was a lot of tyre kicking going on. |

My lad had an interesting experience went with £2000 in his pocket to buy a lathe just wanted to see it before he purchased it liked what he saw. The sales staff were not interested in him would rather speak to the old boys. He came home with nearly all the money, bought two files and a junior hacksaw and some blades. |
Thread: Milling machine taper choice ? |
21/10/2017 15:25:00 |
Not an expert bought my mill with an R8 taper on the advice of an expert it was good advice it works well and you can get the tooling out easily unlike morse tapers a lot of mills don't have the slot in for using a drift . |

I went yesterday it was fairly busy bought a few files and a rule I could see. I didn't see many competition entries a few on tables and some on club stands. It was pretty much locomotives and their seemed to be less club stands. Not a bad day out pre booked tickets worked well.

Thread: Rotary table size myford vmc |
18/10/2017 17:47:10 |
If you decide to go for an 8" table have a look for a second hand British one I got one from a well known auction site for £80 and it was like new no marks on the table just a dodgy paint job |

John What would a bar of 2.5" magnesium cost collected. Would be an ideal material to make tether car chassis from.

Thread: Can you identify this engine? |
20/04/2017 14:05:14 |
Jason, It is unlikely to be a tether car engine usually max engine capacity is 10cc and a two stroke. The current rules allow the use of four stroke engines at twice the capacity of the two stroke engines. It would be a challenge to build a car that complied with the weight limits. It is more likely to for a tethered boat they allow engines up to 30cc. Edited By Old School on 20/04/2017 14:06:18 |
Thread: Encouraging new hobbyists |
07/04/2017 08:45:34 |
Bazyle, I am not complaining but making the point that ME clubs are too focused on running loco,s and this where the effort goes possibly at the expense of other forms of model engineering and the loss of new blood into the hobby. I understand the need for this focus to financially support the club but it's not what I want to do so i am looking for another club that maybe more accommodating. |
