I haven't been to the show for a couple of years, definitely smaller and a lot of model boats some were superb. I didn't have a shopping list picked up a few files. What made it an enjoyable day was meeting up,with old friends |

Thread: Death of Model Engineering? |

My father was a clockmaker and he made clocks for a living usually skeleton clocks with escapements that you only saw in a book in his later years he made orrery clocks in batches of five. The drawings were very simple just a series of circles going up the plates and of course the maths to go with them. I could never have made one from his drawings. I work this way I don't do proper drawings but I am not a clockmaker but race tether cars that I build amongst other things I build.

This forum is a lot more open minded than some of the traditional ideas of what is model engineering is, and may it continue.

Thread: Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition |

My interest is anything fast for the last 10 years I have built and raced modern and old timer tethered cars,I applied for a club stand so that we could exhibit the cars but it was declined no reason given so I didn't bother again. In the end I didn't go to the exhibition I went to a model aircraft swap meet mainly radio stuff but I bought a Stuart Turner S50 set of castings for £50 and a Dooling 10cc engine for a British old timer tether car that I building and as usual at this type of events caught up with some friends a good morning out.

Thread: Thread cutting with carbide inserts |
29/07/2018 08:49:29 |
Jason, Thanks for the info, I won't have a problem with the chuck unscrewing Myford 254s. I am going to try and make some taps to hopefully solve a problem with leaking taper seat glow plugs on our racing. The glow plugs threads are undersize and this might be part of the problem. I am going to make undersize taps as part of the solution. |
