Thanks guys, According to Mr. Parker you clamp the rings in a stack, paint on the Whitening, Heat to cherry red allow to cool and remove whitening with a wire brush. This seems a straight forward process but I was just trying to find out why one would do this ? reading on I think Rod has hit the nail on the head. Again thank you all Edited By Alan Gordon 4 on 07/10/2020 14:28:46 |

Hi Folks, I am progressing well with my build of the Vega Twin. I am at the stage of making the piston rings. In David Parkers construction notes he states that the rings need to be "painted with a thin paste of whiting in methylated spirits". Could any one educated me on what this whitening is and the object of it. Many thanks |

Second thought ! I wonder if "Super Glue" solvent would work ? Edited By Alan Gordon 4 on 15/09/2020 18:29:52 |

Hi Brian, Yes i thought about this but the hole is reamed to 5mm and the component will eventually go back onto a 5mm shaft. So I am trying to maintain the reamed dimension, my thoughts are with trying to dissolve the residue out rather than mechanically remove it. |

Hi everyone. I had to secure a component on a piece of 5mm drill rod with loctite to carry out further work. In order to remove the component I had to heat it up to enable me to remove it from the shaft. However I want to get rid of the residual loctite still within the bore, I dont want take the chance of damaging the bore so is there a chemical that i might use to removed the loctite ? |
Thread: Vega cam |

Well here it is, I finally was able to make at least one set of cams for the Vega. This was a test piece but I will have to improve on the surface finish. Can I take this opportunity of thanking Rod Jenkins for his advice and support, it really was much appreciated. Edited By Alan Gordon 4 on 05/09/2020 11:36:19 |

Hi Ketan all OK I did not get them from yourselves, also folks please accept my apologies for the grammatical error ! With regards the taper I eventually carried out the carriage modification recently shown in MEW. this was a very worthwhile mod. and went some way to resolving the issue. Thank you all for your excellent advice |

I would like to buy a couple of dead centers. I purchased two from a well known lathe supplier but found the runout excessive. Ant recommendations where I might get good quality ones ? |

My present project is the construction of the Vega Twin IC engine. The plan suggests using Free Cutting Stainless steel for valves etc. So excuse the daft question but does Drill Rod have the similar properties ? |

Good afternoon folks. I am getting on well with the construction of my Vega Twin, however the time has come to make the cams ! The plan shows the way to make them "manually" but honestly my filing skills are rubbish. So I believe there are ways to cut cams on the mill by cutting offsets. However I am struggling to get these offset measurements or a way to calculate them, if any one can advise it would be greatly appreciated. |
