Hey Tug, good to hear from you, send me your address I have a present for you, also if you're not going to finish the 5cc vipers, I'm Happy to complete them for you and send one back to you, along with another surprise if you're keen.

Soooooo, after a somewhat extended "must get back onto these" leave of absence I've finally fished them out of the dark depths of despair where I left them languishing and brought them back out into the light of living grace and will upload the next few steps in their construction hopefully over the next few days or so.

Cheers

This engine has been languishing on the back burner for quite long enough, I've stripped it down and will commence the long drawn out process of cleaning everything up and doing a bit of a reassessment, after which a full update will be loaded up, along with the flat 12 project that was birthed from my first attempt at machining up the block...........................more to follow soon.

Well we're back in lock down again so maybe I'll get a look in on this engine project and see if I can't get something done on it.

So...........been a little busy over the last few years and sorta sidetracked. I have however stumbled across this engine sitting way back in the workshop languishing in a sad state of neglect and have brought it forward to the front of the que once again. I stripped it down to check out the inside and give it a big clean and found a broken piston so am now in the process of remaking a set of pistons to slightly improved design. I'll update with photos in the next couple of days.

Thread: Boll-Aero 1.8cc Diesel

You will find that when you heated the silver steel to solder you hardened it but without the next step of tempering you left the shaft hard, and therefore brittle. The sudden shock of the backfire was enough to fracture the component and the running loads brought to completion the part failure. A simple mistake to make when not understanding the metallurgy of the materials one is working with (from my own experience (lolsad) its usually better to machine the crank from solid anyway.

very nice engine to by the way.

So not quite the naylon viper engines which are still languishing in the back burner but a step in the right direction at least......................... being that they're diesels anyway lol, just completed these two engines as part of the WOHM engine development program i'm involved with.

Well as its been quite some time since my last little model engine confessions and even longer since updating this thread I thought it high time i pulled finger (as they say) and posted a bit more on the V12 project. I decided to do a bit of a rethink with this engine and went ahead and made some sand casting gear and cast up a couple of new cases for the V12. photos below show the depths of insanity that some will sink into if left alone long enough.

Yeah I know I said a couple but if I want to end up with at least one good engine I should probably allow for so oopsies, lol

cheers for now

You can also set up a gang saw in the milling machine to the correct thickness and gap etc and rotary mill them all in one go, way quicker and easier than turning each fin separately, especially if your making more than one cylinder head.

Just a thought.
