It would be nice to see a balance sheet from the organisers. With a breakdown of how many visitors @ £????p each how many traders @ £????p and how much it cost to organise £???????p. but I don't suppose we'll ever see one.

Thread: What is happening to this site ?
08/10/2013 09:07:10

Hi dcosta

Terryd is not forgotten. By at least 3 of us. My brother and I were only talking about him a couple of weeks ago. My brother wanted to get ahold of terry but now he doesn't come on, we don't know how to. I will never forget. I recall struggling trying to silver solder, I posted on here and Terry contacted me to arrange to come over to me the next time he was at ARC and show me how it was done. Like wise . I had trouble with the cross slide on my lathe and GM contacted me. Gray invited me to send / take the whole lathe to him and he would sort it out for me. You may recall a thread he posted on mini lathes. That was mine. We have been friends ever since. Both of these people I shall never forget.

I'm not sure what to say. Without being thrown off the site.

For the Editor to come out with a comment like that.

" I doubt their absence will be missed"

HELLO. If I have a problem that I need help with, I post it on here.

its not MTM that answer it. It's the members.

a room starts to empty by people starting to leave it, and perhaps Dianne should remember

that. Without the members this will be just another web page of adverts.

How much knowledge has been lost by just these 2 very knowledgeable

people leaving. Both of them will be very much missed by me at least. I'm sorry to see you both go guys.

All the best for the future.

Thread: Flat belt drive
03/10/2013 20:04:35

Hi Alan.

you don't say whether it's rubber or leather belting, years ago when I was a hosiery mechanic

we use round leather belt on the sewing m/c's these were joined with what I can only describe as

a 1 mm dia staple. The open joint of it facing the pulley.

Loctite also do a super rubber glue, I've used that for sticking rubber soles back when they part company on shoestring at the toe, but what it would work like for a belt I can't say. But may be worth a try.

Hi Gray.

youre doing a cracking job of this Tractor .

Bob and I are following with great interest.

you sometimes feel like a novice ? I can't believe that .

having see other projects you done.

When this model is done. I expect that we shall have to nip

over to see it in the flesh so to speak.

stick at it mate

Thread: New Look
01/10/2013 19:31:30

Well I'm sorry . This new look is more like a full page add rather than a forum site

plus as has been mentioned, there's fewer posts.

Why doesn't My Mediatime just give us a bar

at the top for the posts

That way they can use the whole page for adverts.

I HATE IT.

Thread: Mini lathe shaft/spindle Bearings
15/09/2013 13:47:04

Hi Lee

i have the same lathe.

i thought about doing the bearings on mine, but Simon at SPG Hinkley told me it was a waste of time and money,( he doesn't sell the real bull lathe or should I say he sell the same lathe but different name and colour lol ) and that he's never encountered a problem with them.

Thread: Soldering Aide
10/09/2013 08:50:36

Thanks lads

I'll try both suggestions. Jason. I have tried your method in the past, but the problem I found was keeping the solder in place and getting it to run just where I wanted it to go.

MikeW I like your suggestion, it's prompted me to think of something like a rod rest used in fishing with a heavy base an old crutch that clamps to an arm would be ideal

Thanks again

Hi Guys

A few years ago I had a series of Mini strokes. I got off quite lightly with them, but one of the really anyoing thing they left me with is unsteady hands. When I try to silver solder, the end of the rod looks more like I'm conducting an Orchestra rather than soldering. Ive seen a shield that the solder pokes through to let you get nearer to the job. I made one of these but it didnt help. Does anyone know of something else I could make / buy that would help ? as you can imagine the solder goes everywhere except where its wanted and with the price of silver solder each joint is quite expensive. I think I clean more of it off than I actually use for the joint lol.

Thread: Marking copper
28/08/2013 19:39:35

Thanks guys

Russell. Yes the tipex worked fine. That's the leaks sorted at one end , so I intend to have a go at the other tomorrow . I think some of the problem with the leaks was air pressure building up in the boiler and not getting away at the bottom fast enough. Thus blowing pin holes at the top. I raised the boiler up on some scraps of steel and that seems to have sorted it but won't really know until the other ends done. Then I can pressure test it.

very many thanks all of you

Thread: Rocker tool holder
25/08/2013 13:51:55

Thanks guys

you're confirming my thoughts, I have a quick change tool holder but not keen on the amount of overhang. It sometime tries to dip, so was wondering if this tool holder would be better.

23/08/2013 09:56:14

Hi guys

i have a few leaks on a 4" copper boiler.

Can anyone tell me how I can mark these leaks so that I can still see where they are when the copper is hot enough to solder?

tried layout fluid, scratching with a scribe. But all disappear when the boiler gets hot. Any ideas please
