Featured in MEW 258 and following issues, this ingenious attachment allows both ordinary spur gears and helical gears to be made on a Myford lathe.
The ingenious design requires rather less effort to construct than a "Jacob's" style hobber, but naturally it does occupy the lathe meaning you can't easily use it for other tasks. It is probably best to make all you blanks and shafts before you set it up to make gears.
In principle, the design could be applied to almost any lathe of similar capacity, although for lathes with leadscrews with pitches other than 8tpi, you will have to alter the gear ratios in proportion.
