I'm afraid it's from 1954, ME 2781

S.A.R. LOCO. LIVERY
DEAR SIR,——~I ' am at present
engaged in the building of a 3%-in.
gauge version of the South African
Railways “ 15F ” heavyweight, guid-
ed by the excellent drawings of
Craftsmanship Models Ltd and also
by the hand-book published by the
“Railway Gazette.”
I ‘have, however, failed to secure
details of two features which I
fancy are important enough to merit
research, namely : which crank leads,
and what is the colour scheme ?
It is my intention to paint as I
build and so details of frames,
wheels, stretchers, etc., are of most
immediate importance.
etc etc
Yours faithfully,
Belfast. R. B. BEGGS.

There's also an article in ME 2436 1948 "Something rather bigger" by D A Whiteside

He sourced all the original drawings for his build from the SA Embassy but made no mention of whether they were passed on and recorded

(Apparently the boiler alone weighs over 100lbs on this huge model)

There's a thread on the 15f drawings here

It looks like D A Whitesides work became the craftsman drawings

As you can see the posts sort of ended up in a siding and I never did get a copy of the drawings. Your best bet is to get a copy of the original drawings off John Young’s web site. He now offers digital downloads of all the 15F drawings.

As it turned out I got most of the reverser detail from the AD60 in Australia.

The SAR 15F drawings are extremely clear and have been tidied up by the original site owner because that model was so popular, they have been digitally enhanced for clarity from the look of it

If you're going to go through the expense and effort of making a 15F I would buy a set, the clarity is very good compared to the scans of the other loco drawings

You can download a sample of what you receive from that page

I have the SAR drawings as I did purchase the complete CD's with all the SAR drawings. I picked up a part build project form a deceased estate, which was build using the Craftman drawings. The drawings were also part of the lot but page 1 & 2 had been laying in his workshop for a while and have be eaten up by rats by the look of it.

I wanted to use the drawings to see what had been done and what is the standard of work done. The lot also included a lot of castings which I am presuming also came from Craftman.
