![]() 23121 forum posts 1360 photos | There is an introductory article in the current Horological Journal. ... To be followed by a constructional series, commencing January 2013. It looks an excellent device; as one would expect from Jim Arnfield. Unfortunately, the price of the specified Tungsten Carbide wheel might come as a shock. Any thoughts ? MichaelG. |

Michael, personally I'd forget it, you can almost buy a trio of Valorbe combination pivot file / burnishers for less than the price of that stone, ........ that would give you left and right hand edges in a choice of narrow or standard blades .......... and one spare Not sure about current Bergeon kit, but i think they're similar money and do a superb job, all you have to do is dress them well! ![]() 23121 forum posts 1360 photos | Fair comment, John The difference, of course, being that the classic File/Burnisher is a hand tool ... requiring great skill to produce precise [as distinct from shiny] work.
The beauty of Jim Arnfield's device is that it's a "settable" machine MichaelG. |

343 forum posts 36 photos | My apologies Michael, with the thread title and no access to the original article to go by, I assumed it was a hand tool rather than a machine, Hand burnishers aren't that difficult to master really, there is a skill to develop, but just like competent filing, it needs practice, John |

![]() 23121 forum posts 1360 photos | John, Absolutely no need for apology! For info ... Jim's preview article shows the attachment being used on a Boley F1, and also on a Schaublin 70; and he mentions that it should suit the Myford ML7, etc. ... so it looks pretty versatile. If you don't take the HJ, it's definitely worth seeing if your local Library has it. MichaelG.
