Hi Guys

On the RandA lathe for screwcutting would I need a Thread dial indicator.? I think it may be similar to the ML 10 .

Hi Nobby,
Ady came up with a very clever idea as an alternative to a thread dial indicator in This thread It uses an up/down counter. It should be possible to build a counter similar to the one he used.

It needn't stop you. Keep the leadscrew engaged while winding the saddle back. On larger threads you can takeup the slack and position it by eye anyway.

For a simple indicator you can make a 'gear' to engage the leadscrew out of cardboard at a pinch, or plastic or brass to be posh. It only needs the crudest of teeth to keep engaged and provide the count. Just make sure the lash up you concoct to hold it stays in place and isn't where you can knock it..

Hi Les & Bazyle

Thank for input on this question . I am looking for a new project and hope to do a complete lathe up . I have a flat Drummond 1903-1912 and have a similar problem

doubling up threads Its OK if i set the pedal up But that's hard work. and the leather belt has broken . I will have a go at making a indicator .Watch this space as they say
