Hi Guys

I am thinking about buying a Allchin Royal Chester that was built back in the 60s and the owner thinks it is a steel boiler.

I was wondering where I can get her tested as she does not come with any paper work what so ever and how much it is likly going to cost for a test to be preformed?

I know the golden rule is not to buy anything that has not got a current cert but there are just not that many Allchins for sale at the moment.

Thanks

Ryan

A professional tester wil want a few hundred pounds. If you are in a club have a word with the club inspector as they may not want to test a boiler that has stood so long. Either way both are likely to want to see the boiler with cladding off and maybe the hornplates removed as well which is a lot of hasstle.

There is also the worry about how the steel has stood upto 40 odd years use or standing around, more than liekly its suffered too much wasting (rust internally)

Even if it were OK the thicker steel plate that should have been used will mean a reduced boiler and or firegrate capacity.

Ahhh Thank you J, so really it is not worth it then. Might be a lot of hassel in the long run, I dont really want to throw £3k at something that might not be no good
