Simplex guard irons

45 forum posts 4 photos	Can any Simplex builder tell me what clearance they've used from the wheel rim to the foot of the guard irons. I read on the Simplex site that there were no dimensions given for these in the ME articles, but don't have any drawings now. I think 0.45"? Thanks Trev

45 forum posts 4 photos	Mike They're the offset angle plates bolted to the front and back ends of the mainframes, cosmetic but shown in Martin Evans' drawings. My Simplex was built by my father. The poitioning on the frames is fine but they're too long as there's to little clearance when the loco is on rails. Thanks Trev

17 forum posts 2 photos	Hi Trev, I think I measured mine from the GA on sheet 1 of the drawings. The front are 1.1/4 below the lower edge of the frames and the rear are 1.3/4 below the lower edge of the frames. Material is 1/8 thick and the joggle is 3/8. The front are hard against the cylinders and have 3 x 6 BA screws vertically, the rear are "T" shaped with 3 x 6 BA screws horizontally. Hope this helps. Colin

45 forum posts 4 photos	Colin Many thanks. The back guards were OK, I've shortened the front ones to 1 1/4" and they're all the same clearance now. On the front the joggle on mine is bigger - the point of the guard is directly over the centre of the rail. Trev
