10 forum posts | i am a newcomer to the art of model engineering am in the process of starting to build a 2 inch scale clayton steam lorry.have some drawings and model engineer mags explaining the build which seam a bit misleading at times.need to know how it all works, different functions of items such as boiler,safety ,blower,water valves,injectors,hand pump,pressure gauge and water tank ,etc.how they inter connect with each other.also how to get started with all the controls,water into the boiler,cab reverser arrangement and all other levers to make the lorry move.is they any books or other publications that anyone knows of that will help me out in the building my clayton steam lorry. look forward to hearing from anyone. thanks ade |

The best way to get help is to join a model engineering club. Unless you live somewhere really remote you'll be half an hour's drive from one. The Clayton wagon is not a simple model to build and is not that useful when it is finished except as a nice looking ornament. I spent a long time building one and was a bit disappointed with the finished article. I would be thinking of a small loco or a stationary engine as a better project.
